A lot more news agencies are feeding not just photos but also videos from their correspondents in the field. It may become part of the photojournalist's assignment in the future, and when that happens, I'm pretty sure you're going to see the HD video function in even the top end series of either brand.
That being said, the ergonomics of a DSLR currently are not the best for videography, but the quality I've seen so far has been really good. Maybe through this I'll pick up videography, which I've always disliked due to well .. just bias
