guys can help me...?
i dont quite get it about lense performance.

example AF DT 18-70mm it was found best performance (sharp) at F8.00
So how to take a good landscape pic if using F8.00.
the foreground layer would be oof for sure.

if closing the aperture it will not give good performance...(isnt it)
seems paradox.

what about other lense?
example 50mm 1.4
then Sigma 170-500mm

how to judge?
where to get info?

thanks

What exactly is your main concern here?? If the kit lens is found best at F/8 then all the better use F/8 for landscape. Stop down further to F/16 or so to infinity...

Really I m confused with your question.

if u taking landscape, how come u r concerned with the foreground?

I think you have confusion on focal length and DOF? Probably you will be interested in hyperfocal as well.
Focal Length
Understanding Depth Of Field

Regarding too small aperture like f/16 and smaller, diffraction will kick in and reduce picture quality.

can lah, depends on how you focus only. e.g. the 18-70 mounted on a 5D, at 18mm and f8, the hyperfocal distance is around 2m. so if you set your focus at 2m, everything will be in focus from around 1m to infinity. foreground will not be OOF unless you go and include something super near.

Basically, f8.0 for 18-70 is the best aperture... you are talking about the best sweet spot. If you stop down to f16, it may not the best aperture to shoot, but hey.. who cares.. what really matter here is the final image!!

Stop worrying and just shoot!!

Sharp, slightly soft, I don't think it really matter if the subject is good...

hi.. all.. thank you for replying ...

example a rice field then in the foreground has the resting place of the farmer taken only part of it...

what i want is to have all in focus.

But in focus doesnt mean it is sharp... sharpness comes from the lense.
At F8.0 it is the sharpest but possibility that i cannot get the resting place of the farmer (1m-- example).
i found many times dissapointing that the image in my head was very good but result in PC is not as sharp as the one in my head...

I think better show us the photo, which is better than saying one thousand words

About f8 too for that lens.. Nah, didn't keep that lens.. help my friend sell it already..

I am not long lens person.

If you want your picture look sharper, just increase the contrast in Photoshop, it will look sharp.

Thank you guys.... all of you thanks...

If u are taking a portrait and u are focusing at infinity wouldn't that mean that everything is focussed throughout the picture except the very near foreground and that is if u have something there within the image?

ho... TME...

yup..yup...
sharpness is my problem here basically..
focussed so so... but sharpness a bit dissapointed...
humm...

thanks...

what lens and which aperture do you use?

ha..ha.. the kit lens...18-70
i try F22, F13, i think...

the thing is i delete the pic becoz i got dissapointed... ha..ha.. i try to find but no back up..

for F/22, Diffraction is likely to kick in.
I tried F/13, it is alright for kit lens. May be can try again and show here? Make sure the shutter speed is not too slow also, which may induce blurness due to shake (AS can only do so much).

if u find ur picts not sharp enough, y not try sharpness +1?

hu umm...

i do that always...
i prefer sharp picture nowadays...

lazy to go throug post processing also...
he..he..

thank you all..
