nice lens
sharp, and great bokeh; af a little on the slow side, even when not using for macro and on limit (noisy too)

for portraits, generally a good lens would be in the focal length range of abt 70 to just over 100 in 35mm format, thus 90mm, which is 135 on a 1.5 crop, would be slightly past the tele end

personally, i use the nikon 50 for my portrait shots (thats abt 75mm)

however, if the 135mm doesnt bother u, get the 90 macro, it is a brilliant lens with 1:1 macro, and like most macros, f/2.8
135mm is not too long. Don't forget about the famous Nikkor for portraits AF DC 135mm f/2D.

Generally any telephoto >50mm (DX format / 1.5x crop) will give you relatively good portrait photos. Even 200mm or 300mm are being used in portraits/fashion shoots.

now that u mention the 135 f/2 yeah, i do see some (super)teles being used for portraits. basically its not wat is correct, but wat u like. there's a studio in the UK using WAs for portraits...
