Technology change too fast that you need to weigh the opportunity cost while waiting for the "right" time...

Again i reiterate, the lens + PG skill (and of course PS) do more of the work for quite a lot of photography genres....perhaps much more than most shooters would think.

I was wondering about the same thing -- would Nikon shift production of the D700 to Thailand before it lowers the price significantly? Has Nikon done that in the past? eg, move D2x production to Thailand?

all the single digits are made in Japan... all the rest... Thailand

so... D700 is made in Japan (as per D3) but D300 is made in Thailand. So, anything can happen especially if they wanted to optimize the pricing of D700 (production cost is lower in Thailand).
