Is a filter necessary for Canon EOS 550D 18-55 mm lens?

Both costs relatively higher among comparable equipment.

sorry to hijack this thread too, are phottix filters better than cheap ones?
currently using the phottix HMC UV filter.

There are quite a few low price brands out there. Get a decent one for expensive lens.

:cry: after reading the post i realized that i kena chop chop choped by one of the sim lim shop bought over $600 for digi cabi 30l, digital king lens (quoted me $260), 50mm f1.8 (quoted me $125), Steinzeiser lens, stupid screen protector($29) that doesn't fit my 550d & the freebie is onli the cap string.. so angry now.. coz at first i onli want to get the 50mm f1.4 (quoted me $525) but this Danny guy pursuit me to get the above instead :angry:

These sales tactics and shops are simply unscrupulous. Hate to rub it in, only the digicabi and 50mm f1.8 is of much worth (total around $230).
