Hi all,

Pretty much a newbie to the photography world, so would need a bit of help -- has anyone done this (using IR) ... as shown in this
pic

Please comment/advise, thanks!

PS: anyone tried something like that?

are u talking about Dynax or DiMage?

For Dynax, you can't use IR film.

For DiMage, I dunno. :D

Opps, for Dimage, I mean -- sorry about it ;p

Edited the initial post to cut down confusion... thanks a lot!

Aong,

U can only produce IR photographs using either the Dimage 5/7 but not the Dimage 7i/7Hi series. Many tried putting an IR filter (usually HOYA R72) on the Dimage 7i/7Hi and found a bright spot in the middle. This is due to the fact tht, minolta has inserted some sort of "hot mirror" in the new design of 7i/7Hi series..... Anyway, there's no hard trying. Just put on the filter & u'll get the effect. Usually we shoot in colour mode, then convert it to B+W in Photoshop.

Hope this helps ;)

Hi I have tried it out on the 7Hi ... The centre is extremely bright but I think it is becoz of over exposure ... if the setting is set to Auto ... it looks ok ...

The R72 ... sad to say ... is quite dark ... so the image is best taken in bright daylight .... but it really looks strange ... I mean the results ...

Was hoping that someone with a Infra Red Emmiter from Sony could loan it to me to test to see if improves the result ...

For the night ... the pics are quite bad .. even in ISO 800 ... but still playing with it ...

It's already discussed in DPreview minolta forum that 7i/7Hi cannot take IR ... The bright will be there.

errr.... it's mean to be used at daylight, at nite try to experiment with flash and it's suppose to give a weird look.

I've tried using longer shutter speed but i dun like to mount it on tripod (very troublesome).

Pai seh ... still a newbiew ... hee hee

But I think it works ... as long as you do not overexpose it ... if over-exposed ... the centre part will be bright ... do you face the same problem ?

brightness should be pretty uniform throughout. if only centre part if bright, you can't take good IR pics.

Hmm... if u r interested to know. U can test wif my filter if u want, when i come over for SEED or shooting outings. ;)

But so far, i haven't got the chance to really test the filter yet. I've only done a few test shots with it.

Thanks for your offer, I already have a R72 ... Will try to post some pics up ... after I setup my server ... Thanks ...

But I would be more interested in the RM90 .. heard the output is more b&W ... unlike the R72 which is Reddish ...

wow! anyone here got any sample pics with the IR filters on (esp 7hi?)

how much do they costs uh? or best... hah.. get some free trials! (snapper, since u've 7hi w/ the filter, can take a few 'fun' pics, and upload or something? see effect?) paiseh! thanx!!

The results are quite ok if you do not over expose ... now chinese new year ... busy with spring cleaning, further more, the cloudy skies does not help ... I do feel that if it is very sunny ... the results would be better ... will post pics once I get my server up ...

The filter is quite ok ... I think S$20+ . I was hoping people will try the RM90 ... more B&W look ....

Hmm.. i'd bought a IR filter... but effects a bit odd -- got some circle patch in the centre...

Is this normal?

Or how abt that?

Suppose to be normal ... according to dp review ... will post my pics when I get my router back ... you set to B&W ?

When I tried, if the picture is not over exposed ... it would be ok ...

yeap.. set to b/w ... not supposed to do it ah?

Normally you will loose the INFRA effect as the redness is not displayed ... Personal Preference ...

Check www.cliffshade.com

I try not to do any preprocessing ... jst too lazy ... sigh

ahh... will try in color mode... ;)

perhaps vivid mode wuold make it a lot more redddish ?

yea, too lazy to do processing like me... at the same time, i think /hope this would improve the pics i take as i dun have a 'lifeline/2nd chance at it in photoshop' or something...

and thanks for the interesting url provided!

It is not the reddish part that I like ... it is the "Fake" look ... the trees look like clouds ... hope to get my Router back soon, so that I can post pics.
