interesting possibilities with adapters

...there is a gentleman (jinfinance) on evil bay selling adapters from other mounts to M mount.

because those lens are SLR mounts, there is no rangefinder coupling on the M-Mount...

which is an issue unless we go ultra-wide....

for example, i checked on several websites,
the FD / FL Canon mount has several very wide lens
that is under 200-300 usd. eg. the 17mm/f4 ultra-wide
lens with a problematic filter ring is going at $107 usd.

Question: pair this 17/f4 with a $100 adapter and what would we get ?

ans: probably a very unlikely combination of a camera with a huge SLR lens...

hahah but seriously, this is an interesting combo, 17mm/f4 lens allows focusing at 2.43m m
which means that anything from 1.2m to infinity is in focused.

(no affliated to anybody, just a post on a sunday evening)

here's another possibility... get the Contax/Yashica C/y adapter to M.

put the 25mm/f2.8 Distagon SLR lens on this ... drool.

I don't think you can lose actually.
I'm doing the same or similar thing with my M lenses on my NEX. And also my A mount lenses on the NEX. More so if you already have 35mm style lenses.

The only difference is wide angle lens usually is retro focus design for SLR.

Gommy: very nice indeed! Can you comment on which of the 16-18-21 do you prefer ?

That's not difficult-16mm cos it's my only "fish-eye" lens for RF.:)
Olympus OM lenses are like Leica lenses in several aspects:
size,even 21mmf2.0 is not big,
aperture ring at the front,
DOF scale
it focuses in the same direction,
and exactly the same focal length as TriElmar; thus TriOMar:)

I think an exciting possibility is tilt shift lenses on a rangefinder.. Always wanted one for my mamiya 7...

I could tilt shift my Hassey CZ lens on my Nikons, but that adaptor cost like $600 euros. :(

Hm... but won't you be shooting blind not knowing how much you tilted/shifted?

True, I guess someone would have to come up with an external viewfinder for that purpose..

I think somehow it still got to be 'thru the lens' and back to mirrors again. The error margin for tilting is too high to go by feel.

Tilting is fine as they shift focal plane on the front while not causing much distortion. Shifting is not as they changes the angle. For a 6x7 camera, you will need a lens with image circle of 6x9 and above to have some movement.

I have to agree with you all.. looks like TS lens on a rangefinder is impossible aft all.. I love wide angle lenses on a rangefinder.. but i hate not having basic shift functions.. what a conundrum..
