imovie

anybody using imovie and idvd for mac to capture and make dvds from the camcorders...I got a few questions to ask...

I'm very new at this...
I've experimented and came to the conclusion that you used imovie and then share the captured stills to idvd and then burned to dvd discs...

Can I just capture and then burn into dvd discs using imovie? The best i can do is to rerecord the movies I made into tape...
