hi pro image, I love sarah silver's work but what my feelings behind the work are different from her style, she likes her pictures tack sharp, I wasn't looking for that here.

rhythm_traveller, you have no right to speak for the "fashion industry" people because the "fashion industry people" know what imitation of christ is

I have to agree with Deadpoet, although I'm not that interested with trying to debate about such matters. And it does look like I changed the title and I put the disclaimer, because it is in my post.

I find it difficult to tell my mother that I am doing a shoot with Imitation of Christ clothes because of the name, and she's christian and quite narrow-minded about anything that refers to the Christian mythology, but here in new york it rolls off the tongue
If you think it's misleading the public it's because you don't do your research and jump to conclusions straight away that I'm naming my pictures imitation of christ because I want to draw people in. That is not my fault, and you can blame the clothing line if you want to but you should really ASK why I put down "Imitation of Christ" before saying "please change the title"
to all those who like to jump to conclusions, I'm going to steal rhythm_traveller's style and tell you this....

Off the topic, why does the name "Imitation of Christ" bug you so much? I don't see a Christian protest when a local paper alludes to Neo in the Matrix as a Christ-like figure. Why doesn't a shop named Smiling Buddha piss you off? Does the name imitation of Christ actually refer to anything that suggests malice towards the Christians? Will someone take me on and explain to me why I should be more sensitive?

Religious & racial "tolerance" is supposedly a pair of the spinal bones of the Singapore society, so even if you have any issues with that indian man down the street you better not say it or you'll be seen as intolerant, and if you have any issues with the christians on the street bugging you you better not say it or you'll be seen as intolerant.

and to the admins, I understand your concern for the "religious sensitivity" of members, but perhaps you would like to give me an idea of how many members actually raised issues with it.
because most people here seem ok with it, and considering how many people view this portraits forum, it would have to be a decent majority to enact such changes right?

Well said.

Freedom of speech is not indiscriminant cursing and swearing. Freedom of expression is also not indiscriminant posting of things that MIGHT inflame others. It is just plain courtesy to take care of another's feelings in your expression.

What is wrong with slight alteration of a title to reduce the sensitivity of it? It doesn't demean your photographic work in any way, and may enhance the viewing pleasure of many who may have taken offence at the original title. A "win-win" situation.

Please don't strain this thread. Lets focus on the photos instead. I love the "messy" fabrics. I'll add it to my "wishlist" accomplishments.

You did do something good and nice by changing the titles and add disclaimer and now you have to spoil it all with this speech ? :dunno: Not happy, change it back loh

ANYWAY back to the photos

Everything can inflame someone else. There are way too many people who get inflamed about small things. This tends to happen more when you get older and have too much free time, and start writing tons of letters to the editors of Straits Times (i.e Narayana Narayan). So if you post a picture of a woman in a bikini and I think your pictures of this woman in a bikini is degrading and overly sexual, should I then say "remove it"? I would say it's a piece of sh-it but i wouldn't say remove it. If there are mistakes made, let it be seen, let it be open for debate. No one is going to die because of that.

Sometimes freedom of speech IS meant to inflame others. sometimes you'll hear things you don't like to hear, and perhaps there's some value in it. Personally I do whatever work I like and I don't want to force it on anyone, if you don't like it don't look at it. you have the choice, just click on the "BACK" button. So don't get me wrong, I'm not out to champion the "liberation" of society.

What is wrong with a slight change to the title? Let's say your name is Jing Chao, and someone called you Jin Chay
slight alteration, totally different meaning.
Everyone makes different connections between words. To you Imitation of Christ may mean satan coming down and gobbling the world. to me Imitation of Christ means Imitation of Christ, a clothing line designed by Tara Subkoff, which does have some claim to the name due to the almost goddess like look of her clothes. Am I to change my title simply because you jump to the first conclusion? Maybe Imitation of Christ is a perfect title because it agitates you and forces you to make connections between the pictures and the title.
Would you get inflamed if I called it Imitation of Shiva? Imitation of Krishna? Imitationof Zeus? Imitation of Apollo?

on a final note, I don't want to push this issue anymore so I'm closing the thread
I don't appreciate my title and post being hijacked, and made seem like I'm being nice and putting a disclamer.

other than that please enjoy the pictures if you want to
