I am new to IR photography.

From what I read the R72 filter has a cut off wavelength of about 720nm. Some of the pictures I saw on the internet used a 650nm filter to get a nice color mixture and that prompted me to get a filter of that range.

I was told that the R25A is the filter which has a cut-off of about 650nm and it appears red.

Using it on my 450D, I got the following results, which I color adjusted.

The results are not bad but could anyone advise if this is IR photography or merely a red filter? :D

shoot pictures of foilage in sun

can't really tell from these pictures

Ok, sorry I only have a few minutes with the filter just now :D Will seek greener pasture tomorrow.

Thanks.

You can't reach good results with unmodded camera and red filter. There are three ways:
1. unmodded camera + IR filter [720nm and more]
2. full spectrum camera with red filter
3. semi ir modded camera with red filter inside

The Hoya 25A filter is a red filter, original meant for b&w film photography, and it is also use on IR film for IR photography.

25A filter does not work well on DIGITAL IR photography, you need opaque filter like R72 to filter all visible light.

Thanks night86mare, irstudio and catchlights for the information.
