How to use Leica M8/9's Base ISO 160 for Sunny 16 Rule?

I meter using my TTL meter on my Bessa. I generally compensate my exposure based on personal experience and also the effects I want to achieve.

Don't really use sunny 16 much. I have come to trust my Bessa meter a fair bit now, after shooting with it quite often.

Yeah.. I am beginning to see a pattern developing among those RF shooters who gave their opinion on my thread here.
Like yourself, quite a number of them actually prefer to use A (officially Aperture mode... or to my ignorant mind, auto-shutter-speed-mode) mode and compensate + or - EV to create the desired effect on the subject.
I have begun to start doing that after I understood the ease and the futility of not using the A mode, especially for one who is new to RF.
And my life has just begun to be loads better.

All your answers have changed my life. It's now much more worth living to the fullest. LOL...!

Same here! My Bessa meter is quite trusty! Haven't had any problems with it after a year of using it~

Generally the build in center weighted meters from ZI, Bessa, Hexar RF, Leica are all pretty accurate.

Just that when there is back light, the meter gets fooled thats all.

kaxdd, thanks for sharing with me your experience.
It's really good to see the level of confidence RF shooters like you have with the metering of the camera bodies.

Great, Royale With Cheese!
Very reassuring message from you.
In fact, I am glad I posted this RF newbie post cos I have come to realise how much easier it is to use our M9's now with the new confidence.
Thanks!

I wish my wife use M9 like yours.

My wife nag me to sell my M9 everytime she see it.

Haha....
Mine also KB KB..... Cos M9 difficult to use... she newbie to RF lah..

Aiy... why make life difficult for yourself? Sunny 16 rule is good, but like what others have said - if you have a built-in meter, why go through the hassle? Even if you don't want to shoot in aperture-priority, the option remains open for you to still use manual exposure but with the built-in meter.

With experience you'd be put in a better position to gauge the required aperture and shutter speed and make adjustments from there. As for the Sunny 16 - no I don't use it because I think it takes way too much time to convert the aperture and shutter speed up and down..... when I can just estimate and confirm using my built-in meter.

With enough experience... your guess is not likely to be more than one stop off.

Haha.. sequitur, yah you are right!
I have stopped using manual and I am banging on the metering on the camera body to shoot these few days after I realised how others are shooting.
Slowly I am learning to estimate the exposure, while keeping an eye on the auto-metering.
It certainly has worked well.
Thanks so much for coming in and giving me your advice!

No prob... Enjoy your M9s. Although, honestly speaking, while the Noct does give amazing images, I don't think it's a good starting lens for a foray into RF.

Yes I'm spreading poison - quick get some wider angles!

Haha... Yes you are. And you are absolutely right. I'm now shooting w the 21 Lux mostly. But it is still interesting to experience all the focal length to see which one suits me.

Cougar159, my good friend!
Good to see you up here on this thread.
Don't say like that lah.. I am merely a newbie experimenting with a totally new system to me.
But I am very inspired by all the RF shooters here.
And I am pretty determined to brush up my skills and mount this steep learning curve.
So is SereneXMM.

We just got to keep practising lor.
Eh, you shoot film right? Or do you still shoot Digital M?
