How to use DOF scale for 50mm?

the DOF scale basically has a "mirrored" scale like 22 16 8 4 | 4 8 16 22. the numbers represent the f-stop apertures.if u say use a 35mm cam on a 50mm lens at a focus distance of, say, 2m, at f4, the DOF is the distance range bounded by the left-hand-side 4 and the right-hand-side 4.

ie to say, at a focus distance of 2m the near field (LHS of the scale) would approximate as one-point-something meters (actual figure is 1.83m) and the far field distance (RHS of the scale) is two-point-something meters (actual figure is 2.21m)

similarly for other apertures, look at the range bounded by that aperture on the LHS and RHS of the scale, and you shd roughly determine the DOF.

hope that helps.
