How to reduce vignetting

Problem solved.

I discovered the vignetting was somehow aggravated by the 12538 hood (I've been using this whilst waiting for the 12526 hood from BHphoto).

Wearing the 12526 hood, the vignetting is much smoother and less pronounced at F1.4. Almost cannot see.

Glad that you solve your puzzle...every focal length has different fields of view to go with the right hood

12538 hood, although can be mount on a E39 filter lens, it is designed for 50mm f2 Summicron V3 lens, the field of view is much narrower than 35mm

12526 rectangular hood (small and neat) is originally designed for 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH, the fieid of view is designed for 35mm therefore, minimal vignetting due to hood, however this is meant for f2

The correct Leica designed hood for 35mm f1.4 pre-ASPH Summilux should be used are:
OLLUX 12522 (but too rare and expensive), for mounting on steel rim lux
12504 (Series VII filter)

These hoods opening are much wider as compared to 12526 or 12538...therefore no vignetting due to hood opening...a general rule, beside the physical mount, you can use a faster lens mount of the same field of view on slower lens without causing any vignetting.
