I just receive my new spanking mint 35 lux. Problem is it vignette in corner and is quite annoying. On my m9 i have manually selected the lens and also tried auto lens detect, but i still get some vignetting. Is there anything else i can do?

pre-ASPH Lux is like that one. (me too have a mint high serial no. Lux so I know) On M9, visible vignetting at corners wide open; 1 stop down much reduced; at 2.8 hardly noticeable; at f4 and above, completely free from vignetting. On another Lux (AA), the vignetting wide open is indeed much less noticeable (w/o on AA is like f2-f2.8 that of a pre-ASPH).

bo bian one, treat it as a feature lor
(IIRC, Photoshop has a feature to reduce vignetting somewhat. check it out.)

A lot of people like the vignetting effect of Noctilux on B&W film.

Can I be a sour grape as i can't afford a lux... "2.8f for a lux" ....hahahahahaha!

See posts #91, 93 - 95: Lux's vignetting

What Ned Bojic said: "About the vignetting, it isn't apparent on pictures, usually, exept when shooting bright scenes such as snow. Mainly because the meter get fooled. And with the higher contrast, the vignetting appears exaggerated. I still like it this way, doesn't bother me one bit."

actually I like vignetting! Enhances the mood of the pictures ;)

Depends on individual I guess

I agree ..
The Leica vignetting has a Leica quality to it.. Like leica glow .. So shall we call it Leica_netting :bsmilie:

I am VERY displeased with the vignetting at f1.4...This is more like holga than vignetting!

Example of vignette at F1.4

This link is from ken rockwell's website and it shows the vignetting at f1.4 (credits to Mr Rockwell for these pics, and pls donate lots of money to him coz he got fast growing family!)

At f2.8 onwards, the vignetting is negligible

I was going to use f1.4 for "glow" in my friend's december wedding pics for "misty romantic look". But now this vignette thing is going to spoil that "misty romantic look". sianz.

But okay lar. I walk around little india tonite, and the lens is good. For street photography, the vignetting is not too bad. However, I must say that after 5 months with 50mm, I am finding it hard to get used to 35mm. My composition tends to be too small and I always stand too far away.

I am starting to think that its difficult to use both 35mm and 50mm at the same time. This is because I tend to compose inside my head, and using both tends to screw around with my subconscious framelines :(((

Yup .. the vignetting is bad.. I thought it was more subtle

Do you have a filter in front ?

Just to add .. if you shoot a little wider and crop during pp will that work for you ?

No, I was using it naked without filter.

I don't like to do post-processing/cropping. I try to get things right when shooting. Rather defeats the purpose if I have to crop every f1.4 picture.

Hmm .. no filter ..

True ... just a suggestion ..

Problem solved.

I discovered the vignetting was somehow aggravated by the 12538 hood (I've been using this whilst waiting for the 12526 hood from BHphoto).

Wearing the 12526 hood, the vignetting is much smoother and less pronounced at F1.4. Almost cannot see.

I did not know hood can cause vignette
