Why not? If you are worried then use lens tissue. But the cost difference is large.

I just use my sweat soaked t-shirt during a shoot.. works well.. ;p If working under air-con and no sweat, use the breath to mist the lens up first, then use the t-shirt. ;p

At home, I use these...

i thought we aint suppose to breathe onto the lens?:dunno:i think someone told me this before yawns ago.:dunno:

anyway, the only time i used anything else for my lens is my LV scarf!:bsmilie:
that was shooting a friend's wedding, and i had condensation in front.
sigh...no choice, no lens tissue.

very unglam wor....:sweatsm:

when you are desperate, you will use whatever available to you at that moment. I have used my breath many times, but at the end of the day when I am back in the hotel/home, quickly use lens solution :)

Unglam??? If you use "used" tissue, then unglam... LV scarf? hahaha... the scarf is more expensive than some of the lenses.

Yep, I use this. :D
Absorbent... really. Even with oil. Won't scratch if you use it carefully, and also provided your dust is really dust and not coarse dirt.

Anyway to each his own lah.. Aiyoh ;p

totally agreed. each person has his/her own ways or methods. There is no single solution to it. Even you use the best lint free tissue/cloth with the right cleaning solution, if you have a grain of sand, you can still badly scratch the front element.

net, do what you are comfortable with it and live with the decision. 1 tiny scratch is not the end of the lens

I totally DISAGREE. :thumbsd: I do not think anyone in the optical field will recommend the use of tissues to clean lenses.

There is no single solution, but use of tissue is DEFINITELY A BAD SOLUTION.

HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED.

Use lint free tissues like those made by Kodak or chamois or soft lens cloth.

If you like, you may use tissues but I think it is irresponsible to recommend use of tissues to others.:nono:

aiyoh... we did not recommend but stated that we used such methods. Also, it is up to the comfortable level of the person him/herself.

Of course, the best way, recommended by the manufacturer - lint free cloth or soft lens cloth.

no lah.the LV scarfs are not more ex than the big aperture lenses.
Hermes scarfs, yes.a pure silk one can cost 8k or more.

seriously, if it's a normal kit lens or so, with a front cover filter, i'll use whatever i can grab my hands on.

yes we shouldnt be slaves to the equipment but being a hobbyist rather than a professional, i love my equipment too much to use anything else on it.

i've seen some professionals' lenses and bodies...goodness gracious....
i'll cry if my equipment are in those state.

so unglam coz u used LV scarf on your lens instead of a Hermes one??? hahahaha

yes.. the word is "should not be a slave to the equipment", wear and tear is normal, as long as you have make the decision, LIVE with it.

Although I have not tried, I would think that that kitchen towels are likely to have higher scratching properties than facial tissues. Just look at the usage - using kitchen paper towers to clean stoves, wipe up spills, vs facial tissues which you use on your face. Which is likely to be gentler?

your 'advice' is bordering on the inane and, if i might say so, wrong. if u wish to be funny, try kopitiam. or else some newbie is going to buy your line and use the wrong kind of tissue for their lenses and spoil it.

at least now all of us know how you 'clean' your lenses and equipment...

this the thread is going off-tangent, and by now the TS will probably be able to get his answer from the chaff, thread closed.
