i read that developing on "REAL" b&w would cost $1 per 4R... :(

any other cheaper alternatives?

thanks

i developed 1 roll of B&W from Konota recently. if i remember correctly, the cost was $24 - 6 dollars for developing the film and 50 cents per print for 4R.

however, i am not sure about the cost of reprints.

you guys tried Fei Fei along Upper Cross Street?

50 cents becos its not on b&w paper and its done digitally. In other words, not tradition b&w prints.

Developing + 1 8x10 contact Sheet is usually $10. Developing alone would be $5. 1 enlargement would be $8 on RC paper and $15 bucks on fiberbased...all on 8 x 10". If print 4R, machine print/pc would be bout $0.50. Hand print i think $1.
Send ur BnW stuff to konota. They have this new printer who's very expert at doing bnw. He's been doing for me b4 and I recommended him to konota and they v impressed with him.

realise wormz is right, it is on fuji crystal archive paper.
how to know if it is on black and white paper cos they did not ask me??

not sure what is meant by right away, but they do scan into CD ROM, S$9.90 when you develop the film, else it is S$12.00.

phone for konota is 63334492.
at peninsula plaza, unit #01-26, but they will be shitfing to another unit soon, but still within PP.

just bought a roll of Kodak T400CN from konota today.

anyway the lady at konota said since the Kodak T400CN requires C41 processing it will be the usual $3.50 developing charge and the usual for printing.

anyway i figured this would be easier than using fuji neopan cos she said that it would require a different processing and would cost $5.50.

so heck i went for the easier way... but won't be the "REAL" b&w processing eh?

:)

CN film will not give u real BnW feel. It's abit flat and lacks contrast. E outcome is like changing a color image to grayscale from photoshop. Tmax400 is different. Try shooting on Tmax n CN n u'll see e difference. Pure bnw is more expensive definitely, but worth it.

i think you mean Fee Fee, not "Fat Fat" (in mandarin). :D

anyway i hear they're one of the last few doing true B&W processing there. i know a coupla folks who get their enlargements done there.

BW developing at Ruby costs $12 for processing and 1 contact print. Then each 3R picture is $1, 4R is $1.80. Takes about 4 working days to complete.

So guys, is this too much or just right..?

it's quite rite. $1.80 is for a 4R handprinted on pure bnw paper. For Bnw, usually ppl only print those that they want from e contact sheet. And usually it's about 8R. Bnw looks even nicer when enlarged. f u want to have 4R photos, but not necessary handprinted, send to Konota for machine prints, its more economical, though it's on Fuji Crystal paper. $0.50 per 4R for that. But if i'm e 1, i'd go for e bigger enlargements on true bnw paper. Size do matters here. : )

Oops... :embrass: Yeah.

I think the real joy of BnW photography comes with doing the developing and printing yourself. I heard that the Photo Club at SAFRA has got very good darkroom facilities which accommodates 35mm and Medium Format. Cost about $18 to join for a year, and you can book the facilities to do you BnW work. Sounds like a good idea for us Singaporeans living in cramped HDB flats.
