Sounds pretty fair to me. I would pay $500 if I had the need for a camera as versitile as the S40.

Good luck if you're intending to sell it. :bsmilie:

The only sure thing i know about second hand digicam prices is that they are dropping. If you intend to sell, do so ASAP before the next geez-whiz model comes out and drops your camera back by another generation. The camera remains the same, but its perceived value drops.

If you do not need to sell for the cash to upgrade, then i say forget it. Keep it because there are too few decent digicams nowadays. Between the S40 and the S50, there are very few improvements worthy for you to lose $400.

Even if you want to upgrade to a DSLR, i suggest you still keep the S40, because nothing beats the portability of the small digicam as a useful tool for inconspicuos shooting. It is not everyday you lug around your DSLR setup everyday.

If I remember correctly, the LCD of the S40 is very sluggish compared from the S50. That alone could be a factor for upgrade, depending on how important it is for you. For me I couldn't take it, but if your demands are lower, then keeping it could be a good idea depending what you have in mind........

I agree that S40 LCD user interface is lousy than S45 or S50. S45's LCD (or UI) has improve compared to S40. I am a S40 user.

from G2->G3 and S40->S45 and V2->V3

the UI improved dramatically... super high speed navigation of menus and 10 zoom steps in playback mode...

sorri.....i tot its a volvo S40....
