How do you import DVD to your computer

Dear Club Snap users

i'll like to ask you all how do you import dvd into your computer (digital format)
so that we can edit, cut, and compile to a new movie?
I'll be using iMovie 8
Hope you all can enlighten me..

On a PC it is easy, even for copyright protected discs. No idea how to do it on a Mac though, sorry. Maybe you could do a search for "DVD ripping on mac" and see if you can find anything useful.

I don't use imovie, but if you're on a Mac-

Handbrake (download from pure-mac.com)

or Mpeg Streamclip to rip the DVD

to various formats you can edit with.

Anybody tried ripping on new iMac using handbrake?

I have jerky output after setting to default settings such as Apple TV.

I playback my old ripped files (done via an older iMac) on the new machine and its also smooth. DVD direct playback also has no problem.

Any idea what's wrong?
