How did you get your 'nick'?

Since we are in the mood for the irreverant...

Mine was the name of my character from 'Diablo', from years back. Actually an alternate name but my preferred 'RubberDuckie' was too similar to 'toiletduck' which was the name used by one of my colleagues in the common-pool-use-computer. Since most of the names of the other players had dark,macho, overtones (toiletduck being the other exception,) I wanted something more....shall we say, 'uplifting'

Since then,its stuck

When I was about 9 or 10, my brother brought back 'The Queen of Sorcery' by David Eddings back from his school library.
I was hooked after finishing the book in 2 days, begged him to bring back more. That started my fascination in David Eddings. (yes, I know he's trash, but I like it anyway.)

When I was 13, I got into CHIJ Secondary and I met a girl called Joanne whose big brother was really cute. Well, I thought he was cute. His voice was like honey over the phone. He was 14 and he was to become my first serious crush. For 2 years.
We got to know each other through the Belgariad series. He was also an avid fan. At that point in time, he was using the nick Belgarath on the internet. So I used the nick Poledra to match him.

And so the nick stuck, because I've been using it for 2 years and I've gotten so used to using it.

My nick was taken up by someone who'd registered before me...
Was known as "smashing" for quite sometime, inspired by the Smashing Pumpkins.

Anyway, since it was taken up, I have to resort to a new nick that I'd picked out recently. This nick was inspired from one of the character at Homestarrunner.com, called The Cheat. His username, as seen in some of the Flash cartoon shows (notably in Strong Bad e-mails), was cheatachu72. I'd adapted it to cheatchu79!
