Hello!
Can a Minolta 3500xi Flash be used together with a Dynax 5 and get high speed sync?

Thanks!

~Alvin

No it can't be done with 3500xi flash. Must use other high speed sync capable flash.

THe only flashes that are compatible are the 5400HS, 5600HS and 3600HS. Some of the third party flashes may work also. Like the Metz flashes.

Thanks!

Matt: Do you know if the 32Mz2 or 32Mz3 can be used with the Dynax 5 with high speed sync? Thanks!

Alvin

I'm sorry to inform u that the only one that works with Minolta's HSS is the highest end hot shoe mounted flash, the 54 MZ-3 and 4. The price of the Metz flash should b slightly cheaper than the current Minolta 5600HS. but u can get the 3600HS instead, but u lose the side to side swivel on that model.

Alternatively, if u r just wanting to use the High Speed Flash with the flash mounted on the hot shoe without swivel, then u can get around it with a second hand 5400HS. The advantage of the 3600HS and the 5600HS is that u can do WIRELESS HSS also. u can't do wireless HSS on the 5400HS, just wireless flash sync at 1/60sec. if u want to use off camera HSS, just get the off camera cable OS-1100.

Hope this helps

Matt

if you want to bounce the flash in the vertical cropping with the 3600HS(D) & Dynax 5, go get the off shoe cable, minolta flash shoe, flash bracket & a small ballhead.ballhead is from kaiser or manfrotto.3600HS(D) is to compliment your Dynax 5.To know more, call me 1 day beforehand so i can bring my outfit to show you.... ;)

The 3600HS(D) should be around S$260+\-

Hi andy, I have always wanting to use my flash on a vertical shooting setup. I know I need the shoe cable. How much is it? I am using Dynax7 with 3600d. Please advice.

If the bracket and the shoe cable is too expansive, I may want to sell away my 3600 and get the 5600 instead. But is there any advantages in the setup you mentioned which is better than the 5600?

Thanks.

The real advantage is when I'm shooting wedding dinner in ballroom that has very high celling.you see,the ballroom is too high to bounce my flash.so I fix my 5400HS on the bracket and shoot direct in the vertical cropping. normal on camera hotshoe usage will make the shadow very thick on the right hand side of the couple when you shoot in the vertical cropping.

2ndly when i do handheld macro shots, the flash is too high, giving it a flat lighting. I prefer to have side lighting. Anyway, got my bracket from ruby photo @ S$12. as for why you need the flash adapter for 3600HS(D) is because it does not have a 4 pin socket like the 5400HS or the 5600HS(D)

Ha Ha, It's gonna burn your pocket loh.The OS-1100 is S$55 listed, Oc-1100 is S$55 listed, the bracket is quite ex leh, metz has them, cathay has strobo frame,me make the bracket my-self. technically the 5400 & the 5600 is good for flash shots. the distance covered readout is very good, tells you your flash coverage.but for off camera usage, the 5400 & 5600 does not read out the distance. If you think guide num 36 is enough then use your 3600HS(D) lah. :bsmilie:

Hi guys!
Excellent discussion going on. What is/How does the bracket work with the 3600HS flash? I'm trying to lower as much cost here 'cause I doubt i need the features of the 5600. Not to mention no cash for a 5600! Going to need quite a bit of $$$ for film when I go thailand to shoot!

I want HSS in the daytime (I'm using iso 400 probably in daytime, alternating between outdoors and backlit indoors, so the shutter speed can hit 1/1000 - 1/2000 at wide open aperture outdoors), and ability to bounce up when indoors in landscape/portrait. Portrait mode probably only going to be used when I photograph some r/c celebrities.

Thanks!

Regards,
Alvin
