I was wondering if there are fashion designers in CS who are willing to do an xdeal. I have a model portfolio shoot on March 3.

Is anybody here willing to lend some clothes? Are there places here in SG where clothes/costumes can be rented out? Let me know.

Cheers!

Hmmm a few questions.

If the designer is to loan you the clothes.

* Can she use the pictures for Inhouse promotions, brochures, posters and website for a period of 1 year?
* Can you Dry clean the outfits after use?
* What is the price range you are looking at for your high fashion stuff? Chanel? Gucci? LV? Lanvin? Prada? YSL?

For costume/clothe rentals, you can try

I have shot with my fashion designer friends in Manila and the agreement was that the photos will only be used for their portfolio/self-promotion as well. Fair enough. On my side, I also agreed that I won't use it for any commercial gig, also just for self-promotion. I even paid for the studio and rented the lights we used. Models also get their copies for their portolio as well. ;)

Here are sample shoots:

Even it's not a paid gig, I see to it that I deliver the best photos I can. Maybe it's just me but that's how value my work, paid or not. Time is very precious and I don't want to waste the models' and the designer's time. Plus lending the clothes was really very helpful to make the shoot successful. Fashion photography is always about clothes.

There can be special arrangements regarding the use of the photos. It can be discussed. It's just has to be a win-win for all parties involved. And, I'm just careful that we're not affecting the photography industry in general as fees for services is concerned. Let's just discuss in private if you have any ideas. :)

In exchange for the clothes, I don't mind.

* What is the price range you are looking at for your high fashion stuff? Chanel? Gucci? LV? Lanvin? Prada? YSL?
It doesn't have to be of a particular brand or an expensive one at that. I believe when shooting fashion for a portfolio, the wardrobe is most important. Since it's about the clothes so what's most important is if it fits purpose and fits the model of course.

Thanks for the referrals regarding the costumes. I really appreciate it.

Cheers! :)

No worries, its a small gesture. That's the most common questions our local fashion designers asked when my boyfriend loans clothes from them ;)

According to him, these are the ways to do a folio here in Singapore

1) Fashion Stylists
U need to work with them. There are many budding fashion photographers here whom have found their niche after finding a compatible fashion stylist to work with. But not all guys can work with the established stylists who directs most of the time.

2) Fashion designers
There was a time when budding photographers went around in the Singapore Fashion Festival and Singapore Fashion week to give name cards, show their folio in order to establish relationships with them. Most of the designers need media attention and sales. Hence more reluctant to loan clothes nowadays unless you are from the papers, magazines, show choreographers, fashion stylists etc. However, it pays to just visit them, to introduce yourself. Just saw a few accomplished fashion photographers showing their folio to Designers based in Tanjong Pagar while looking through wedding gowns with my boyfriend. So if you are interested to go door to door, these are the few places where most local designers are based.

* Tanjong Pagar and Club street
* Orchard (Far east, Hereen and the Delphi)
* Bugis (Bugis junction, Bugis Village and Bugis Icon)
* City hall (Stamford house, Marina Square)
* Clark Quay (Central)

3) Fashion schools
Some of our successful budding fashion photographers here was noticed through their projects with the Fashion schools (example term show pieces, graduation show pieces). Some of the lecturers there are also fashion stylists or established designers, hence you can network and establish yourself with wonderful folio shots with them.

d) Temasek Polytechnic

e) Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts

Hope this will be of help to you.

just to add the last option

4) Model agencies
As most agencies will need to do test shoots for their new models (local, pan asian or caucasians), they will need photographers help. Moreover some of the agencies have in house stylists and production crew which will help to lower the cost of your shoots.

Some of the agencies with in house stylists/makeup/hair support include:

a) Carries

You can see some of the models in the mass shoots conducted under workshop
