Hey any Sony A850 user here?

solid and heavy.

my fingers ache terribly after using it for one day

Use the hand strap... helps spread the weight so that the entire back of the hand helps bear the weight rather than the fingers alone... I FORGOT to buy it again when I visited the Sony shop at Wisma Atria yesterday.... aaaarrrggghhh....

i take it that you haven't tried the D800 :bsmilie:

Never used... but I assume it's good... and heavy?

Honestly.... I feel that as traditional DSLRs or SLRs... the new FF Nikons have surpassed the Sonys in most areas.... and particularly in focus speeds, affordability, feature set... Sony is a bit behind the curve as usual... even with the A99... picking it up to use, I can't help feel that it feels more like a piece of consumer electronics where everything is tricked out electronically... I still don't like an EVF as it adds to this electronic feel... nothing comes close to a FF OVF at the moment... not even the NEX-6/7/A99 viewfinder...

more than you might think. Many lenses are not officially weather sealed but in reality, are.

I was doing a shoot with the A900 & 70-200 in a pool when I accidentally tripped on an underwater step, and dipped my almost half the camera into the water, luckily, all the covers are closed and the water didn't get through the mount.

Other than the camera being nice to grip, the menu system is a pain to navigate through. couple this with the problems that many are facing when using the camera including the
oil-spot-on-sensor issue and green LCD. the High ISO isn't as good as the A99 or 5D3 as well.

but if you use it for landscape, then it's pretty good at what it does.

but if you want to use it for video, DON'T. it SUCKS. and that comes from experience. even with an external mic, the video quality is piss-poor

Was at macau recently and it's raining. My A850 make it and still fine till now (touch wood) but I tried my best to protect it (them).

Btw, I got 3 x 16GB CF (60MB) as the new ones, brought this year! So, I going for RAW as to max the camera and card usage. Unless doing time lapse, I will switch back to jpg. Cause switching too much hurts, like not shooting in cRaw (or Raw) when you wanted and the moment "escaped"

Btw, my RX100 "suffers" more in the rain but still "ok". I once back hotel, lower the air con to 20, heh heh!

Hahaha that's good~~ I actually wonder who still keep the A900~

I am still shooting with it.

I am not sure If I have missing anything on A99.

I have kill one a900 after 400k shutter and I have one more a900 and three a850.

I don't plan to upgrade unless the next FF is much better as I think bigger sensor works better in terms of image quality, the depth and color reproduction.

At low ISO, the A99 and A900 are on par. It's only after ISO 800 that the A99 is much cleaner. But let's see what the next generation brings. :D

Hopes next ff from Sony is really a new change from current. Hoping for a dual cf (maybe a combo of cf/ms?), 36mp, integrated grip, 10fps, time lapse build in and some slow motion video features. Cost around 5 to 6k? Need to start saving now. ;p

I am not missing anything then.

I have been using the A850 for nearly 3 years. A few months ago, I had a look at the A99, but decided to give it a miss. I shoot mainly landscape at low ISO and most of my lenses are Leica R converted to A-mount. At low ISO I doubt I could see any difference printed to A2. The 850/900 is still capable of high IQ.
