Hi All...

has anyone any experience using the Hewes stainless steel reels?

are they available in Singapore?

Thanks

Ruby doesn't have this. So i got them from freestyle.

Best stainless steel reels, easy to load and smooth in loading film.

Try eBay for 2nd hand one , new one is expensive.

Some comparison , not not neccessary better.

1) can use without completly dry unlike plastic reels.
2) no ball bearing breakgae issue for plastic reels ( rare but the plastic reels will age)
3) wont get cresent shape bent like plastic reels
4) easier to check the film when developing/ fixing.
5) more sensitive to ambient temperature. steel is better conductor than plastic.
6) use less chemicals
7) will not spill chemicals when you rotate /agitate .

This is the picture of a hewes reel.

look at the centre of the reel, you will see a teeth protruding outward and that will fit nicely on the holes on the film.
It will keep the film from sliping away while loading the film.
Most the steel reels does not have this features and therefore you have to load very carfully.
(This also accounts why ppl say steel reels is not easy to use)

it seems like the Hewes SS tanks are out of stocks at B&H, Adorama, etc. Anyone know where else to get them?

try ebay, it will be much cheaper than buying new. The stainless reel are almost indestructable from normal uses and does not have ball bearing problem like plastic reels.

did a search too no luck :(

Do they have like a company that we can deal directly with?

I don't mind if someone's holding one hahahah....
