here's an idea: infrared flash + infrared film =Street Shooting at night

infrared light is not visible to humans, but it can be captured using infrared film.
a normal flash can be modded to become an infrared flash, and with that, we can
possibly overcome a shallow depth of field + slow shutterspeed.

the possibilities are endless...

* shoot difficult subjects who will not behave naturally in the presence of camera
* shoot highspeed action subjects in the dark
* back to the difficult theme of shooting in geylang without being beaten up....

search "Kohei Yoshiyuki" on images.google.com for some very disturbing images of japan in the '70s....

I spot 2 different Infrared films on the market.

Efke and Ilford SFX 200 iso 35mm.

The SFX has a faster iso of 200.

*correction* there is one more brand, rollei which is 400iso.

Disturbing indeed. Here is an article about Kohei Yoshiyuki from the nytimes.

Hi raytoei

I came across this site which does Speedlight modifications, maxmax.com

Guess what they did was to stick a 715nm IR filter on the Speedlight, allowing only Red and IR flashes to be emitted. But its just my guess!

I just bought a roll of Efke IR 820 and Ilford SFX 200 recently, out of curiosity. Have not really read up on the proper way to use them yet.

This looks like a project that's worth a try!

Been toying with this idea for awhile. Anyone wanna get together to try and make this work? :)

I suggest digital route. There is less complexity like fogging. No need to send to max max steven at cam hospital in sg does it.

It will probably be full manual, difficult to get good skin tone and blacks

This is probably one of the best IR shots out there.

I done it in Clarke Quay , in clubs its fine the light doesnt piss people off.

I have the book(2 actually the seller sent one extra....). Actually the pictures are quite weak... probably only 3-4 good ones in 50 plus...

The Sunpak 622 flash can be fitted with an infrared head.
