help needed, best affordable 35mm film scanner??

Hi, I am new to film and just bought a few rolls of negatives.
I am think of getting a scanner to cut some cost and I did some research online. There are a few models which came to my mind.
Epson V500/600/700(V700 is 2 expensive already)
Canon 8800F/9000F

canon is cheaper some reviews saying that software for canon is not as good as epson. and some scanners from cannon have problems scanning negative comparing to epson.

I like to buy a v600, because most review saying that it worth the money and it is a great scanner. but the retail price in singapore is over 400 sgd comparing to that is 180 usd in US。。。。
canon 9000f is 319 if i am not wrong. 2nd hand will be cheaper.

what do you recommend? I only scan 35mm or sometimes some documents only. thank you.

If you are looking for a scanner that scans 135 format only, I would suggest getting the Plustek 7600i. For than $500 for the SE version, you get one of the most affordable 35mm dedicated film scanner.

You can always Google for it. You can try Bizgram Asia Pte Ltd. Alternatively, you can call Parisilk in Holland Village. I got mine from them.

Based on internet details, the V500 is 6400dpi and 3.4D while the Plustek is 7200dpi and 3.5D, does this values really matters for that price?

You have a DSLR right?
I think a DSLR and negative holder setup to take 1:1 off the film is far better than my Canon 9000f.

The main downside is that it needs DIY for an efficient film advance system so that there is no need to re-adjust camera for every copy and you'd need a software to convert color negs.
On B/W its pretty straight forward (just reverse the negative with no worry of color casts)

I have owned the V700 before and my advice is if you can get a dedicated film scanner vs a flatbed, get the dedicated one. Specs aside, the scans are really a world of difference.

Anyway, we did not do a comparison between the Epson V700 & the Plustek 7600i. Instead, we compared the scans (on the spot with the same negative) between the V700 & the nikon 4000ed. All those who were present can tell you that the scans are indeed a big difference. With the nikon, you could identify the grains! This is not to say the V700 isn't a good scanner. Just that since I have had both dedicated and flatbed before, I prefer to use a dedicated scanner.

Anyway, as advised by a professional who conducted the sharing session and test, a good dedicated scanner will outshine a good flatbed. You can google around to read about the reviews of the Plustek

I am currently using the Plustek 7600!, one plus point is that is a really small machine, abt the size of a loaf of white bread.
However the process of completing a scan is very slow, for those who are impatient please avoid getting this.
Just sharing mine personal user opinion.

oh, thanks for advices, actually I made my mind to buy the 7600i se, I read some reviews that it take 5 mins to scan one pic, but anyway I can stand that. I don't take 10 rolls a month anyway.

Yes its abt 4 to 5mins+ per frame, I once had to scan 5 rolls and I nearly died of lack of sleep!! haha!

In case you are eying the 7600i SE for colour slides, go with the 7600i AI instead as it comes with an advance version of silverfast, the difference in price is cheaper than the cost of the software upgrade, scanning time don't bother me a bit. Dedicated scanner is the way to go for 135 format.
