what's the serial number of the body?

Hi,

DRP stands for Deutsche Reichs Patent. After WW2, this was changed to DBP, Deutsche Bundes Patent (German Federal Patent) as the Reich no longer exist. But DRP was still in use for several years after the war.

The screw mount Summarit was launched after 1949. I have the bayonet mount for my M3. I suspect your screw mount could be a IIF or IIIF.

anyway you can cross reference the serial number to the lists HERE.

I think it is a IIf second version. Pls remove the viewfinder and you should see the serial number below, that will help us identify the camera. Check whether the accessory hot shoe has 2 or 4 screws. The lens is a 1952 Summarit.

I think the IIf does not have slow speed knob on the front althought it has the flash sync. The earlier IIf also does not have the 1/1000 sec shutter speed. There are factory conversion services that adds the slow speed knob and essentially turn the IIf into a IIIf. Looking at the pictures without any additional information, it would seem that the camera could well be a IIIf RD or even a late conversion of a IIIc to IIIf specification. A picture of the back of the camera and the serial number would definitely give a better clue to which model this camera might be.

Cheers,

wow! that was quick, you guys know your leicas. a friend of mine is selling this to me, but i wanted to identify what model it was first before selling it. i have already asked for the serial number, hope he sends it to me soon. :) also, around how much would be a fair price for this?

the serial number is 639911. with 4 screws. according to http://www.cameraquest.com/ltmnum.htm, its a iiif produced between 1952-1953, which would be just about right given the date of the lens. thanks for all the help sirs. what would be a fair price given the condition?
