Help converting MiniDV tapes to CD

Hi all! I have a few childhood DV tapes that i would like to convert to digital format. Is there any place to do this sort of conversion?

U can go to sim lim square 5th floor. I forget the shop name. Got this uncle he can convert your dv tapes to DVD format for $15 per tape. Cheers

what type digital format do you like them to be converted to, DVD? any editing to be done? and the quality of the DVD will depend on the master DV tapes

I am planning to do the same. I'm just wondering if any old cheapo miniDv camcorder will do? Since theoretically it all stays in the digital domain (there is no D/A converter cos there is no converting to analog from digital), there shouldn't be any degradation in quality right?

Correct, it is just a transder of the digital data from the tape to the hard drive. There is no degradation. Unless you use Moviemaker with the wrong settings haha.

THere are no lost of image quality unless your tape is moody or the tape surface is damage.

He never mentioned 8mm tapes. MiniDV tapes are digital, and normally you would use a firewire cable to transfer the video data to hard disk. 8mm tapes are analogue and need a capture card in the computer. But yes it is possible to convert 8mm tapes to DVD.
