Hi,

I got myself a Dynax 5D not too long ago. My friend has requested for me to help take photos on her wedding in June. Anyone has used this camera for wedding photography before? I would appreciate advice and if there is any kind soul who can loan me equipment. I'm a newbie with no experience, thus all input is welcome, thanks.

Do u have a flash, u will 100% need one for indoors.

taking that u will be using the kits lens only, it will be more then enough. try to shoot aperture around f5.6 to f 8 for group photos.

At least a 2gb card is needed unless u can delete photos along the way. lastly, to play safe ,set yr ISO on the camera to 400 and AS to ON.

Apart from that...

bring lots of batteries... yes I mean a lot!! I normally bring 6 NP-400 battery for 6 hours job and 4 sets of 4xAA rechargable batteries...

Get the 5600HS flash..

Don't worry about it and enjoy the process... if they are "EXPECT" a lot from you.. then don't do it!! Ask them to hire a pro.. like Geno..

Other than that, just relax and shoot what looks good in viewfinder.. if you are lost, shoot in "P" mode... yes, I am serious, "P" mode.

Yeh, "P" mode you sail you through the day. You can also scroll your dial to have different settings in "P" mode. That way i m sure you wont miss any moment shots. ;)

Like most mentioned, external flash like 3600 or 5600 is very helpful in wedding/events photography. If you have enough storage space, can try to shoot in RAW, so you can convert/adjust (post processing by computer) for better exposure and white balance, but sure you will need to learn about RAW processing (you can try using RAW shooter essential to convert, fast and good), which sometime can be quite tedious if you go through a lots of photos  .

this request sounds like suicide.... i don't want to sound mean or anything, just being realistic. Hart's right. if they expect a lot, then they should get a pro, but yappei, you should still tag along and learn plus compliment the pro's shots with your interpretation of scenes. your situation reminds me of the first time i was asked to cover an indoor event, luckily i was just supplementing the main photog's coverage, because most of my shot then "cannot make it"...

all the very best with your shoot, just relax and fire away! :)

My advise to you is if your friend is someone who is very traditional, know his traditions before hand. This way, you would know what is coming up next, so that you would not miss any important ceremony. :)

Thank you so much for all the advice :) any idea how much the flash costs? I could get my friend to lend me CF cards, but I still need flash and lots of batteries yah. Thanks again!

For 3600HS(D), at Harvey Norman is $280. But if you do your research, sure can get lower. Usually these stores sell at recommended retail price by KM. Do try lookin at shops in Peni or Funan. NO SIM LIM. ;)

Ok first of all:
- Read, read and read up about wedding customs and mentality rehearse the proceedings in ur mind over and over again.
- Find out as much as u can about the environment.
- Its not about ur equipment in this sense, its abt ur experience.
- I'd done weddings and ROMs with my Dynax 5D. As long as u're familiar with ur equipment, the basic theories of flash photography, u're cool to go.
- Get an external flash like the 5600HS(D), flash is extremely, extremely important. The 3600HS(D) can do the job as well and I had done jobs with it. But currently, I'd prefer something of more... 'power'.

Backside abit itchy. Wondering if I shld sell my 3600HS(D). Got a little scratch, but still working perfectly. U want it? ;p
