Went to harvey norman today. requested a qoute on canon eos 300d. The guy with an attitude problem told me it was $1999 NOT INCLUSIVE EF-S 18-55mm lens.

I thought $1999 was inclusive of the lens as mentioned in canon website ?

they said is mulit-code, and to my horror is not when I try it later at home...
when back to the sale man and he start acting blur, gives lots of excuses and even ask me to call their technical support to find out,

lucky i managed to decode it after doing some search on the net,
that DVD will be my last purchase ever from them....

hee hee very simple really,
rest assured no soldering required,

just go to yahoo, search for "source code"
it will list one entire list of model and the source code to activate it,
just have to follow instruction and press a few button on your remote....
bingo!!

cheers :)

ya went there a few days ago was enquiring for 300D and 10D and they told me if you pay cash or nets its $1733 (w/o GST) which is 1819.65 for the 300D with lens kit.

mustafa is selling 1849 with GST and can use credit card. Maybe Peninsula can get better price?

anyone got better price?

Harvey Norman - Hardly normal I would say...Its just the old Pertama using a new Mat Salleh name.
Name have changed, owners have changed, staff are the same - attitude and service is still that bad!

if you want u should go to the millenia walk one.. the rest are horrible.

the other stores are better in a way because they are major resellers. harvey norman has extended warranty... but would that be covered by the manufacturer or the HN themselves? :dunno:

sim lim's "Song Brothers Marketing" is offering $1700 with the lens included. what do you guys think

That's a very competitive price ...but Song Bro.s also a bit attitude.
But if that's the best around town - then you should go for it.
Haven't heard of a lower price that this for some weeks.

Well most shops in sim lim are usually filled with either people with attitude problem or retarded ones who keep asking you whether you wanna buy every 3 seconds. Its like I owe them something in life......... :blah:

but the low price is precisely the reason why i doubt and you know how notorious sim lim can be ...

after reading and posting in the thread about buying from stores that sell cheap but may be problematic... this is what i suggest you do:

buy ONLY the EOS 300D + EF-S 18-55 kit, and strictly nothing else. DPReview has a standard listing for the items in the box:
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos300d/

Sorry Phil (Askey), just gotta help my fellow photographer here

please make sure if you're buying further accessories, you go with someone who knows the market rate. i've never been to song brothers before, but it's better to be armed with information in the first place, "just in case". a cheap filter for the 18-55mm lens can be like... 10 dollars, to 50+ (at least?) for a top of the range B+W filter. the EOS300D does not ship with a memory card, so prepare to shell out another 200 bucks (or around there) for a 512mb card too.

really, go with a pal who knows his worth in such things, to protect yourself and have an enjoyable experience :)

I got pretty good service from a Bernard at Harvey Norman Millenia Walk when I bought my 828. Let me play with it for quite a long while, and he sounds like he knows his stuff. When he didn't, he would openly refer to the product brochure to get the information for me instead of trying to bluff me though.

Also, I was looking for a Nikkor 24-120VR but the MW branch did not have stock of it. The sales guy (another one, not Bernard), called his other branches, and upon locating one set at Funan Ctr, reserved it for me thru his colleague. He said that if I could wait for an hour or so he could go over and get it so that I wouldn't have to travel all the way across. This is what I call service.

These two incidents (which, incidentally, happened on the same day/trip), changed my impression of HN sales staff quite a bit. It could have been just unique to HN MW's camera dept, but it gives the customer a certain level of satisfaction when doing a purchase.

Don't think so. Yes you certainly can use any sort of payment.

anyway for everyone's info, I didn't buy the camera today. They promised 1 yr warranty, all accessories, and lens kit.

But they just wouldn't show me the god damn camera ! not even the box ! well... too bad ..... I'll rather pay extra few hundred dollars at some other shops to ease my mind...

almost got into a car accident on the way there too !
