Hi guys,

I just visited Pro Photo at Plaza Sing. Took a look and a FEEL for the new Hasselblad X-Pan II. Oh my goodness.... I almost can't take my hands off this babe!! It's LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.....

The best part (to me) is that it can take both normal and panaroma pics (using 35mm) at just a click of a button. What a cool rangefinder! ;p

Though now on a 30% off, the price tag is at S$3858, off the usual $5k plus. (Offer ends 31/10/04) So I was thinking, is there a simliar cam which can do panaroma apart from X-Pan II?? This babe definately worth it's value but for a DSLR user like me, a panaroma cam is just an additional option for creativity. :D Plus I've got other budgets to work on so...... Sigh.....

Any other cams in the market that does panaroma and is cheaper than the Hasselblad??

Any kind souls.....Thanks! ;)

I think most medium format camera they have a film-back for 35mm panaroma.
I think buying a Bronica 645ETRSi with a 35mm pana film-back is much cheaper than the X-pan and also allows you to shoot medium format as well.

get the used Xpan instead of the new one lor.ard $2600+ range

do a search for Horizon panoramic camera.

it works differently from xpans though; it uses a swing lens design. russian origin makes it much affordable than xpan. wider horizontal angle of 120 deg as compared to the xpan's 95 deg.

the horizon is almost impossible to shoot handhold though the price is cheap.

the japan cousin TX-1 should be cheaper though.

endure temptation endure temptation........

If only the Toto god smile on me..*sigh*

The Camera Workshop brings in the Fuji TX-1 whevnever the set in the shop is sold off. you may go check with them. i got mine at 2700.

fuji manufactured the XPAN body for Hasselblad on a collaboration. though i reckon the hasselblad's lens quality to be superior to the fujinon lens, i don't think i'll be able to tell the difference. well, for a $1000 savings on non-brand consciousness, i could get the same body for my shots, i thought it was worth it :)

hope this helps.

but the XPAN II has got modifications on the old XPAN. some improvements are done. you can read up on the net. sadly, the fuji TX-1 didn't continue to improve on theirs to come up with an equivalent for the XPAN II.

the fuji also came up with the TX-2 black in color..

If I'm correct, lenses are all the same irregardless of Hassy or Fuji. They are all made made by Fuji.

just grit your teeth, go to the shop, credit card on the counter and BUYBUYBUY!!!!

X-Pan II is great. I used it with the standard 45 mm and 90 mm lens. I am just hoping one day Hasselblad or Fuji will come up with slightly faster lenses such as F/2.8 or even f/2.

If we use the centre filter on 45mm lens, it is practically become 45 mm f/5.6!!

hmm, i thought with a shutter speed of 1/60-1/250 it should be pretty ok?

from my limited knowledge, the shutter speed selected must also combine with the appropriate lens rotation speed.

i dun think i can handhold the camera properly dat way.
anyone more familiar with horizon care to comment ?

No way they can able to manufacture a F2 or F2.8 lens cos while shooting pana, light fall-off is something need to consider!!! :nono:
If you want rangefinder with a fast lens, then Leica M-series is your choice!

YES way they are (not "can") able to manufacture a F2 or F2.8 lens ;)

As a matter of fact, someone known as HUW FINNEY (reads HOW FUNNY :bsmilie: ) is making one right now using the rigid summicron 50F2 for the XPan.

wah.. F2 on my Xpan..

but i have serious doubt it can work, vignetting will be too much..the 45mm Hassy lens has the coverage of a 645 lens dat is just nice for the pano strip.
summicron lens coverage how to cover so long ?

Actually I doubt it would work [just pull' that (dirty) "kid"'s leg lah  ]
The FUNNY guy (from the UK) in fact sucessfully modified a Chinon 50/1.4 lens and mounted it on the XPan and it did focus properly. While the result is nice (see link below), but the image circle is only slightly larger than the standard 135 format. His current project might do better but probably still not quite good enough for the pano (not "pana" hehe). Well, we shall see.
