Hasselblad film backs

Hi

I need some advice on Hasselblad film backs.

I know there are different types of film back where you can get
A12, A24, A16 and A32 film mags.

Question is how can i tell which type it is by looking at it?
Is there an indication of it somewhere?

Thanks.

I bought one with an ISO dial at the back of the film back...what type of film back would this be? Thanks,

Mount it on any 500 series body. Remove the dark slide. Release shutter. Wind. Release shutter. Repeat until cannot wind anymore. The number of shot indicates what back/magazine u hv.

Can the ISO dial flipped open to look into the film back? If so that is the uber old one which has 12 frames.

A24 and A32 are significantly fatter and hard to miss.

As for A12, there will be a mini-winder on the right side of the back where the number counter is.

Thanks sprewell.

My comes with an ISO dial, i think it does flip open.

The number A12 is to use with 120 film with will give you 12 frames of 6x6 pictures, A16 with 120 film will yield 16 shots of 645 pictures, A24 is to use 220 film yield 24 shots of 6x6 pictures.

Then A series film mags have four generations. Earliest been the one with an ISO dial at the back, then follow by the round windows film tab holder, then the square windows film tab holder and lastly the most desire mag which is the one with the dark slide holder.

You have to see there four screw mount on the last version with dark slide holder to be sure it the right version, as there people will glue a dark slide holder on the older mags that will made it look like it is the last version in order to get more money from you.

The newer backs have the ISO setting, while the older ones have a port to peer into to see the kind of film that's in it. As for whether it is an A12/16/24 back, there is a little round plate, on either the left side or the right side that says A12, A16, A24, depending on the back that you have in hand.

Another way I have found to differentiate an A12 vs A24 film insert is to look at the film insert (the one with the spools). The A12 film inserts have a shaped metal plate to keep the film tidy on the inside of the center column, while the A24 ones have a sort of a sprung cylinder coming perpendicularly out of the center section

By the way, does anyone know where to get 220 film in Singapore? I accidentally bought 3 220 backs instead of 120 backs and now I'm looking for 220 film that I can use. Since I am based in Dubai, I'm getting a little adverse and paranoid about X-ray machines zapping my film carry-on luggage, especially the higher ISO ones (800 and above)
