this is wat I wrote to Harvey Norman customer service.

DEAR sir, today I was at Harvey Norman Funan IT Mall to purchase a Nikon D100 digital camera. I was attracted to your 0% interest free plan using credit card.

But your salesman with the name tag of "Ang" deter me from buying it. He was harsh, rude and sarcastic to me for no reason. He even told me that "this camera is for rich people" . Imagine the other customer looking at me. I told him " I am not rich but could afford for it:" I was really put off by your sales man and when back home without buying anything.

As a sales man, I thought his job was to assist customer in their purchase. My question is why he is behaving this way? how many customer he had turn away since his employment? Do you think your business will flourish with this kind of sales man in your company. ?

In future if your sales man put up such a negative behavior, I wouldn't hesitate to write to the newspaper.

sincerely yours

So any feedback from HN ?
Should fire the guy....

may be when i free i drop by Funan HN and see if the "ang" still there....and then asked for a 1Ds and see if he will say the same thing

Heh, ask someone to video tape ala undercover report :D

Geezz ... here's my two cents worth ...

Was with a friend shopping in BEST DENKI Taka, asked if they had stock for the Dimage 7Hi but Mr. Bengz pointed to a 7i instead. I told him that the 7Hi was the later version of 7i and he gave me the "You trying to tell me I don't know my stuff? You dont look like you wanna buy anyway!"

A foreigner friend with me was indeed the "real shopper" and asked me which digicam was I using, I flashed my Coolpix 5k out of my bag and showed it to him. Instantly, Mr. Beng realised that we could afford such toys even though we were in tees and berms, started saying that I had a good taste and choice in camera, CP5k is damn good, asked if my friend wanted to get the same one ... Man he sucked BIG TIME ...

Best Denki in JAPAN ... all models are displayed with batteries/adapters on counter tops semmingly with an invisible sign that says, "please come and play, no need to buy". The sales staff will readily be happy to serve you once you signal for them ...

Singapore's customer service ... ... is in a sad and sorry state man ... not then again, I should say only MOST but not all, just hope that the remaining few are not actually citizens from neighbour countries working here on work permit ...

u knwo this article shoudl be sent to the press...its unconscinoable practices that cannot be condoned. and i din know harvey norman was so screwed up until i read this thread...will be wary and ready to scold hte salesman if i ever go there :)

btw the email for sending to ST is stforum@cyberway.com.sg

I was there somtime ago to buy a camera and when I asked they told me that they only have the display set but if I am interested they could order in a new one for me. Before I left the shop I actually memorize the serial number of the camera. A few days later they called me & told me that my camera is in. I happily went down to the shop and when the sales guy see me he ask me to wait while he go pick it up from the store & when he returned he took out a 'new' body for me. When I opened the box to inspect the body I found out that it had the same serial number as the display set that I saw a few days ago. Then I asked to see the 'display' set and it have a different serial number! They actually swop the body and gave me a display set and they told me its a new one! Yes i know there is nothing wrong with a display set but they promised that they would order in a new one for me & when the new stock arrive they swop. I am not there to buy any cheap camera it cost me more than $3.5k & the sales man should know that I am serious about my stuff & should not try to swop my camera. When I asked him, he tried to blame Nikon. I would never go back to Harvey Norman again.

Reminds me the time I was at the computer fair last year at Suntec, wanted to make my credit card burn out with just 1 swipe for a laptop... walked around fujitsu in an old t-shirt and jeans with lots of phamplets under my arm... nobody bothered to come near me to serve me.

Guess dressing has to play a big part eh? I bought my 5700 @ Best Connection though, I was wearing my office clothes during lunch, the person was rather helpful, cos probably I was the first customer that day since it's so isolated there... I bought it.

Maybe next time we go buy things must wear nice nice, with tie-bar and cuff-links and hang our credit cards around the neck.

hey, Harvey Norman don't bother to reply my email. maybe that is their way of doing business.

Yeah. I think these sales people don't quite understand people like you (and me) that we dress up for work on weekdays but on weekends, we dress real down! Me in my round collar t-shirts, bermudas and sandals don't get any decent service. I can imagine what service I will get if I dress up in my suit and speak with a fake accent ;)
