nice. But very expensive. lol

Sweeeet! Is a full cage twice as expensive as a half-cage?

LOL. even with the top handle it is wayyyy cheaper than the Swedish Chameleon one.. but I can't comment about build quality comparison because I've haven't had an experience with the S.C. ones..but the Fhugen Honu ones are really solid piece of work.

Thanks for the $$$ tip! I noticed V2 has screws to remove half the cage, ending up with a half cage and less than half the price of SC!

yeah you can make it a half or full cage if you'd like to, even for the V1

Pardon my ignorance but what is the purpose of these cages ?

Thanks

Cages are for attaching accessories. I'm not a fan of cages but the A7s has absolutely no where to attach any accessories. The hotshoe is of a smaller size than the standard one and has very fine, fragile looking electronic contacts.
It is what sony calls their MIS (Multipurpose Interface Shoe) and contains connections to a host of audio accessories including their XLR adapter. I keep it covered up with a plastic protector and will not risk wearing down the contact by inserting accessory coldshoes into it. Problem is: the XLR adapter itself needs another coldshoe to stand on. Hence, some rigging is needed. A cage is one solution to this problem.

apart from attaching mics and monitor, I also use my cage to protect my camera.. LOL
