Short story:

I was fiddling with my Konica Hexanon 50mm f1.7 on my E-P2 when my mum casually mentioned that grandad used to like photography too. She mentioned he had a Yashica. I was like..."orh ok" ( thinking thats the only brand she remembers from that era ). Later that night mum had a talk with dad...and guess what...after all these years, he was keeping in on top of an antique showcase cabinet! Here it is:

Its a Yashica Electro 35. I also managed to dig up a Yashica Full Automatic Motor compact.

Was wondering if its serviceable and whether servicing it is gonna cost more than a new rangefinder...hope its not just another piece of history. If yes...where?Appreciate any help thanks.

And oh yeah...I have no idea how to use it.New to Rangefinders. :(

Congrats! My grand uncle's Yashica Electro GS RF started serious noob photography for me!

Google this webpage called the yashica guy, very informative

Congrats!

It's a piece of sentimental heirdom!

Lens look a little foggy, but if the battery compartment is not corroded, I guess it could still be of service for a long time to come.

Bring down to the usual service folks and hear what they say...

Who are the usual service folks? Hehehe...

That girl must miss her owner a lot :)

You can contact fatigue on clubsnap. He does quite a fair bit of repair work. Shops-wise, you can try The Camera Hospital at sunshine plaza.

such a priceless find.. i would definitely try to get it restored if i were you.. ;)

check for the POD, that is the most common problem with the electros..
Crank up the film advance lever, you should hear a distinct "thump" after about 20 degrees of movement.. that should indicate a good condition POD, if you hear nothing, it is bad, and usually bad POD will cause erratic shutter speeds.. thankfully they are repairable, and if you are handy, you can do it by yourself..
