Must be super new technology, 2800 is even lighter than 2100 and 2300!

serious?!?! GP2800?????

this is a serious issue...and the manufacturer of the fake batteries can be involved in a serious legal suit..

that was an excellent investigative work.
someone should make this A STICKY!! for the time being

nice and chic weighing scale.

The print looks fake too

anyway to differentiate the fake from the real by appearance? i also suspect my GP 2500 and 2300 batteries got problem! Lost power a few days after full charge although i nv use them at all.

where do all of you buy your batteries? is there any particular common buying spot where fake batts are bought?

So far only see GP 2700 batteries. But then again on sale in the chinatown area, so still got to be careful when buying. Anyone can confirm that GP 2700 out in the shops?

I got a set of 2800s as well. Bought from Y!Auctions.

A few things that caused suspicion.

1) No such product listed in official website.
2) No packaging, only shrink-wrapped.
3) Some spelling mistake on the batt label.
4) Cost me less than 10 bucks for a set of 4.

But I'm still using it. :p
(Pay money already, don't want to waste)

btw, 2700mAh batts out in shops.

Wah, the equipment that you use the chiong batteries in is worth less than the cost of the batteries themselves ? Not sure if the batteries will cause short circuit in the equipment. I wouldn't take the risk if i were you.

Actually I ran the set thru a few hundred flash cycles before I started suspecting they were fakes. No real problems (thankfully!) but the recycle time was noticbly longer than the Sanyo 2500s. I don't use 'em anymore of course.

I guess one of the things that should set alarm bells ringing is when you get things cheap. And that there's no packaging whatsoever. Or packaging of a design that you've never seen before. I once nearly bought a pair of fake high-end Audio-Technica earphones. Also over Yahoo!Auctions. Dubious packaging + horrible sound = dead giveaway.

Went to HK, and I suspect many of the streetside peddlers are also peddling fake GPs, but these are with proper blister packaging.

oops .. i bought quite a few set of 2300/2700 from hong kong - 庙街 .. not sure if it's fake! all prints and packaging look normal ..:what::dunno:

Hi Pals...

I'm not here to side GP or any batteries...

You cant measure the battery's capacity by weighing like that. And assuming 2500mAh should be heavier than 1800mAh etc.

Battery capacity depends greatly on actual electrolyte volume. As more and more makers are packing more power into the same cylindrical can....manufacturers are constantly working out better chemistries to enable higher capacities. Depending on the drain rate, these higher capacities might not be able to be fully enjoyed.

There are many approaches by battery manufacturers to change the construction and manufacturing processes to pack in more capacity through thier secret recipes...

Therefore, in this case, weighing would not be a good tool for the investigation ....

I second this.

Usually I will avoid buying battery from unknown place or source.

Wow! Lucky I read this. Now must be careful. I even saw Made in China GP Batteries for @300/2500 and they are White/Green and packing is official GP Packaging. Found in the DIY stores too.

I think Challenger sells the 2300 version for around $20 bucks for pack of 2. That is the cheapest I've seen from a "got some brand" store.
