Any good video camera to recommend for budget of S$1,000?

Thank you. :)

Try panasonic. but make sure it's at least 3-CCD

USM bro,

Didn't know you are in to videography too.
With that budget, I guess you are looking for non-HD camcoder.

I would recommend Panansonic for its 3CCD as well as the "IS" :p
Looking for miniDV or harddisk type?

Thanks Bro,

I want to try video, so thinking of buying one. :embrass:

For the format, I think that I prefer DVD, so that I can play it easily as compared to tape, etc.

You can get a HD camcorder at $1000, either older model or through mail order. Once you have seen one, you won't want to go back to SD. Personally, I think DVD is the worst format of recording for camcorders.

Any model / brand to recommend?

Hi USM,

Change interest? I am also looking one for my kid shooting. Panasonic seems good but never use it and have good experience with Sony (non-HD) but pricing wise is not so good.

canon hv20/hv 30 is good. hf100 should also be not bad. slightly out of your budget but still worth it.

Uncle USM...pay a little more get a good HD lah. HF100 fits your need man. But it uses SD card as storage and need better PC to edit.

HV30 is good. But personally don't like the tape storage.

Thanks guys.

Look like HF-100 is recommended. But it uses SD card.

Anyway, I will check it out.

Hi
I got a question on where can I get the VPC-HD1010’s battery?

Look like HF-100 is recommended. But it uses SD card.

SD card makes it a little inconvenient to store (compared to DV tape, for example) but makes it so much easier to transfer into computer to edit. Editing is painful (both in terms of needing high end PC as well as the actual editing) but not as painful as watching unedited footage.

There doesn't seem to be any cheap 3rd party batteries for the camera (yet) and the battery that comes with it seems to last about an hour.

I got mine for under US$635 from Amazon. It's up to $650 now. I also bought a 16GB SDHC for under $50, tax included. According to Yahoo US$700 is S$968.31. If you're flying into SF for holiday I can meet you at the airport and pass the camera to you there :bsmilie:

Hi

i'll recommend getting genuine batteries which usually can perform a longer life. The battery model# for HD1010 is DB-L50. I ordered my extra battery here.

I know this is 2 weeks overdue... :bsmilie:

but just to share what I have bought....

Canon FS 11

Video quality wise I can say average but what I like most is:

- Small size... very convenient (i can put in side pocket of my backpack)
- uses 16GB Flash Memory (will not damaged easilty compared to HardDisk) + external SD card
- battery can last up to 3 hrs
- very easy to use the menu
- mic jack....

only disadvantage (to some) is no Viewfinder... just see it thru LCD...but its fine with me

and around $1100

just sharing.. :)
