Finding a 50mm f1.5 Voigtlander is quite difficult. Can you guys recommend other 50mm lenses that are relatively good but not expensive? Around f/2 to f/1.5 (or 1.4, budget-permitting).

Hmmm

There is canon 50mm F1.4 ltm
Hexanon 50mm F2 - I'm selling this one ;)
canon nikkor 5cm F1.4
canon 50mm F1.8 ltm

If you can wait, i think voigtlander will come up with a 50f1.4 very soon as they have discontinued the 50f1.5 a while back.

50 hex is a good place to start
50 1.5 nok is v v good :bsmilie: ( but I not selling mine )
50 2.0 heliar nice also ( the early black copies). tink can find easily if put want-to-buy.

I hope so too.

Chiif got any insider news?? :D

The nokton 50mm F1.5 seems like a great lens based on reviews but the size kinda big.

Hopefully if there is a new 50mm, the size would be smaller ;)

If budget allows, maybe a second hand 50mm f/2 Summicron? You may find that it may start off as a starter lens but ends up as your favorite.

The 50 1.5 was a pleasant lens to use. The only things that bugs me is the odd shape and minimum focusing of 0.9 metres.

50 Summilux pre-asph is good. Get any version depending on your budget.

Haha the 50 hex is good, thanks for lending me it the last outing xD now I am still waiting for my adaptor to arrive.. If the adaptor never arrive, I think I am going to just get from chiff.

Personally i started with 50 cron ver 3. It is excellent lens.

I think the Canon 50mm f/1.8 should be one of the cheapest LTM RF lens if you don't include the Russian offerings. Great built quality and performs well too.

Cheers,

50mm f2 Summicron is good!

Can't go wrong with the summicron. I didn't start with a cron50 but when I got one, I really like the size & its performance. It was this lens that started my quest for the 50mm. I started to get different versions(more the optical variation) of this lens, then it just got out of hand...I'm still buying 50mm's

I would recommend a 2nd generation 50mm Summilux pre-asph F1.4. Some user copies' prices can be quite close to 50mm Summicrons. But of course do not expect mint condition.

i tried and got hooked on this nippon kogaku 5cm f1.4 after reading much from many especially Gommy, i am really happy with this piece, ofcoz i kenna tok slightly for this mint piece (not from a CSer ofcoz), but its really a keeper for me. i think they are relatively affordable. Dont see many on CS lately though..

some old sample by this lens. (shot at distance 1.5-3m, f1.4)

i really love my summitar 50/2!
best lens for b&w and incredibly sharp!!

but i don't use it that often cos focusing ring not that smooth and the lens cap cannot stay on :embrass:

but still my fav 50mm! (my others are cv 1.1 and ver4 cron)

which would be a better choice for starting out in B&W
canon 50mm f/1.4 LTM or leica summicron 50mm f/2?
