Hi guys I am planning to start a video project on a video montage and would be making a lot of commentaries... Any recommendation of a good one under $100 and preferably portable too? And if so, where do I buy it from? Thanks!

Hard to find a good mic at that price. Even the legendary Shure SM57/58 is around $200. But there are knock-offs of Shure going for cheap. Tips to spot the fake:

Real SM57 can be purchased from hung brothers simlim sq

Here's a $11 dollar mic I found at simlim

For studio quality recording without the studio, consider the "lip mic" from Coles Electroacoustics, $700 from bhphotovideos. I consider this the best kept secret in audio engineering. Not cheap but it saves you tens of thousands on dollars on studio construction!

I was going to recommend the Coles Lip mic too, but after looking at the initial budget, I decided not to.
Actually, the Coles Lip mic is intended for commentary recording in a noisy environment like a sports arena... It have excellent noise rejection, but it doesn't sound good in terms of the voice quality.
If can push the budget up a little, the Shure VP64A is also pretty decent mic for the price... It's designed as an ENG interview mic, the cheaper version of the tested and proven Shure SM63. Should be in the S$150 range from Hung Bros at Sim Lim.

I have a Audio Technica AT2020 ... not bad mic I would say ....

To get good quality out of the Coles, additional purchase are required. The levels are very low owing to its unique noise rejection construction. CL1 Cloudlifter mic-pre is a perfect add-on for addtional 20dB of gain. Some EQ boost on the low end is required and pointing the mic slightly off will help alot with the plosives.

Hey guys... I settled with zoom H1 + audio technicca 3353 lavalier mic... $120 for the entire thing..

For under $10 more, you can turn the lavalier into a pocket studio booth by buying 5 pieces of dishwashing sponge and gluing them into a 5-sided box. stretch a nylon stocking over the opening of the box. Dangle the mic through a hole in the sponge box and speak into the stocking-covered side. The sponge will provide acoustic dampening from background noise. The stocking minimises plosives.

Thx. Will try this later ...

Does the sponge need to be the thicker type or thin type ... I think thick is around 3cm? thin maybe 1cm ...

Thicker is better. Acoustic foam is even better but of course more expensive.
