Wonder if CS can have a thread for members to give away some of their stuff.
If CS can go a further step and have a holding store like say, salvation army concept.
Mmbers who don't bother to sell their items can donate to this. The proceeds from sale can be used to fund CS operations like say, buy more hardware or whatever.

give away items some time can be more troublesome that just throw it away.

most people here willing to contribute to this community all are on volunteer basis, running a thrift store will take a lot of time and efforts, think nobody can afford run it on a regular basis.

no one is going to do it for free or for zero profit.

and few people are willing to give away their stuff for zero profit. giving away your stuff to someone who really needs it, as opposed to giving it to someone to make profit.. those are very different concepts. the former is way more acceptable , i would think.

but i agree, there should at least be a WTG (want to give) option.

i can see 8000 more complaint threads popping up though.. for example, i state that i want to give away an old tripod that is still functioning.. and that only people who are tight on cash need apply. the next moment a "poor student" who needs a tripod drives up in his dad's last birthday present , i.e. a mercedes convertible, gets my tripod, and i see a WTS thread with my tripod on sale.

if people state the selling price and buying price, at least cannot complaint. charity is such an iffy concept nowadays - who deserves to get what people choose to give? how many are willing to just give without caring what happens next?

CS loves those students with entrepreneur spirit, don't we all love them? :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

well, that happens in ntuc textbook giveaways when i was younger, i remember.. :)

that is life.. also, we see people complaining that they very poor, but can BBB d3, trinity lens, etc..

sometimes, rich or poor, it is a state of mind.. but of course some people are more delusional than others. :bsmilie:

This is exactly why offering to give away high-value (even when used) items will not work in this society... even when really quite bad quality, one won't give something away unless it's usable, and even a $150 item that has degraded can fetch at least $50 if still "usable".

This is sad reality. Of course, if you don't mind the thing I quoted, sure a "Giveaway" thread will make sense.

Just my 5pence, I did study sociology/pysch so forgive me if I'm skeptical.

Set it up so donations are made to educational establishments in need of assistance, or with people from needy backgrounds. That way all is received with thanks.
