Hi Guys,
Looking forward to buy the Gitzo 1541T Tripod and wandering where could I get the best offer and what is the price now. But pretty confuse to which ball head would be suitable and reliable for most type of shooting . Using Canon 7D and heaviest lens would probably be the 70-200 F2.8 - Total budget = no more than 1k? Please help to advice:think::think:

Tripod is slightly below $800.
Best use Markins Q3 or Q3T (approx 370 or so)
But total budget will be more than 1K, dont forget you need to get the plates too.

Hi Scubagolfer,
Thanks for the quick reply. Ok besides adding the plates, what else more to complete a BASIC and GOOD tripod?

Hi MGohzxc,

I asked my friend to help get mine at HK for about S$700 after the rate conversion, sorry can remember the exact amount. I only remember if is about S$150 cheaper than local store.

As for the ball head, I'm using the Markin Q3 and it support my equipment well enough even mounting a 100-400 without using the tripoq collar didn't creep noticably.

You may want to consider the additional cost of changing the ball head plate as the plate is smaller than the Q3 ball head. The other problem using a Q3 ball head with the 1541T is you can completely close the legs when you invert the legs. Not a major problem for me.

The next option is to get the Markin Q3T which fixs nicely.

Also you also need to consider the cost of getting the mounting plate for your body and maybe for you lens as well. That would add additional >S$200 to the cost for the Wimberley plate.

Hopes this information helps.

Hi Nuthead,
Wow !! you have a great setup ! And thanks for the good info. Ok another words the setup will average at about 1.4K then. That is with the 1541T, Markin Q3T and the Wimberley plate. I hope this will be all I need. By the way, I need to talk to my Dad about this budget. I need him to finance it.

You might also consider L-Plate and quick release clamp if you switch from portrait to landscape position a lot. RRS produces very nice L-Plate and quick release clamps.

Hi, yes, this is probably what you need.

To shave off some cost, you could start off with a Wimberley plate for both your body and your lens.

The key diff is that I don't want the trouble of taking on/off the plate from the body as it is not using a quick release mount and you'll always need to remember to stuff an alan key in your bag if you intent to change the plate between the body and zoom lens with tripoq collar.

The other diff is the dedicated plate for those zoom lens have some protruded part at one end of the plate to prevent slippage and movement.

Yes, I've read something about the RRS L-plate. Is this plate expensive and how much ?

Hi Nuthead,
This is what I'm afraid of - going to get pretty confused for a tripod setup. By the way, I really love photography and really want a light tripod setup too. But something that you or all have to know. I am only 11 years old and my height is approx. 1.38m. And again why need so light tripod? I'm a girl ! So not so strong as you guys.... But I guess a good tripod is very important for night, macro long exposure shots.

I would rather suggest that you make do with what you could for the time being and wait for sales from Cathay for the Manfrotto 190CX3. It is also a carbon fibre tripoq, just marginally heavier than the 1541T, probably because the centre colum if of aluminium instead if carbon fibre.

If you combine that with a good ball head + 2 Wimberley plate, you can possible put your cost of having a decent tripoq @ <S$1K

I used to own that tripoq before I let change to the 1541T.

Based on the promotional price of 190CX3, this is probably what you'll need to pay;

S$298(190CX3) + (+/- S$340 Markin Q3) + (+/-S$240 2 pc Winberley plate) = S$878 :)

I suggest you head down to Cathay and have a comparison of the 2 tripoq.

Hi Nuthead,
Thanks again. Thats great details and suggestion. I will head down to Cathay and check it out and also have a feel of it. Of course with my Dad.

I have changed my tripods twice. First was a Manfrotto entry level tripod, the next one was Manfrotto CX3Pro (something like that) and the current one is GT1541T with Q3T.

The stability offered by GT1541T with Q3T is better. You pay a premium for the quality. Even my friend who tries it feels the difference compared to his Manfrotto.

It is good that you try them out at Cathay as suggested. :)

Ok guys, thank you all for the advice. Will check this out at Cathay Photo:):):)
