I don't dare to watch anything from 'The Camera Store'. They make everything so sexy that u wanna buy! Haha

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Just buy lah ... wonder when will reach Singapore ?

Btw, in the video, it says it is recorded using GH4 with V-logL. Do you know what is V-Log L ?

Thanks

wow the DR on V-LOG looks great. a bit reddish on the skin tones though.

Ryan, LOG is an acquisition format for video recording which is optimised for retaining colour information for grading in post.

E.g.

Thanks Deunamist ... wow the color grading was superb.

But I am a bit confused after reading this :
http://www.eduardoangel.com/2015/04/17/shooting-anamorphic-with-panasonic-gh4/

If I understand correctly, it says that in order to get the V-log-L, we need to shoot in Anamorphic (does that mean adjust the format setting to 4:3 ?) and use lomo lens ...

After reading that, I thought that is of no use to me because I do not have any lomo lens and worst still, what on earth are lomo lens ?

Thank you ...

you don't need any specific lens to use LOG profiles. not sure abt the Anamorphic thing leh, I don't have a GH4 to verify with you. Lol.

Hahaha ok ... so in short the V-log L works on your GH3 with any lens ?

Nowhere in the article does it mention that.

If you read/google the subject, you'll see that the vlog firmware has been released to a small number of users, presumably for testing, but there has been no public/final release yet.

The film starts out ungraded as shot in a new V-Log L gamma file color space, which is being evaluated for market release in 2015, then transitions to fully graded scenes.

APRIL 27, 2015: For several months now, Panasonic has been demonstrating, leaking and (presumably) tweaking two logarithmic picture profiles, VLOG, for the GH4.

June 11, 2015: Jordan Drake from The Camera Store has confirmed receiving a new firmware for testing that includes VLOG. We may be inching closer to a public release.

V-LOG is not available on GH3. but acquisition format should not be affected by lens choice.

Thanks Deunamist ...

On my GH4, there is an Option for you to select "Anamorphic" to ON or OFF ... and when you set to ON, your display straight went to 4:3 size ...

So I believe the V-LOG is only available when you are in 4:3 and not when you record in 16:9 ... that said, am I correct to say that the craze on this V-LOG "thingy" is something like raw format in still where you have more stops of dynamic range to play with ?

Ok, back to GX8, anyone buying this GX8 ?

Thanks

ya the stops of DR is what makes LOG formats desirable. if its only for anamorphic its strange. I don't think so. when the firmware is released then we will know for sure

Believe you are wrong... There's no relation between vlog and anamorphic. The firmware with v-logL has not be released for the general public. See post #6.

The latest firmware you have on your GH4 should be 2.2. Please read this, there's no mention about vlog. Unless you somehow have access to firmware 2.3 or 2.4, your camera does not have this feature... yet ;p

Ver.2.2
[Anamorphic(4:3)] mode is available which optimizes the settings for 3328x2496 video recording with a 4:3 anamorphic lens.
* To convert the footage to a cinemascope aspect for playback, corresponding software and device are required.
1/16000 sec shutter speed can be selected manually when using [Electronic Shutter].
Fixed the issue which video recorded in rec format AVCHD got misdated when imported to some editing software.

Thanks Deunamist and kandinsky,

I have checked, my GH4 is Ver 2.2 which is the latest.

I am confused because in the beginning of this GX8 review video, it says that the video was shot using Panasonic GH4 with V-LogL:

Thanks

Nothing to be confused about. I already said:

Which part of that is confusing?

Pana has given access to vlogl firmware to a select group of people/testers/reviewers for testing & presumably for gathering feedback. If Pana did not invite you to test it, you don't have it, simple! ;p

-------------

While you're waiting for it to be released, you can always download the sample files Nick Driftwood has provided, to try your hand at grading clips shot in v-logL

Ok got it, V-log still not available in GH4 ... thanks kandinsky ...

I've no idea why they are holding back V-Log. It's a simple implementation.

I'm abit tired of grading the overly contrasty look especially for corporate projects.

Maybe waiting for it to be announced with GH5. Lol

Saw yesterday that EOSHD posted something about Panasonic New Zealand replying another user on Twitter that it will be out in Oct. But apparently the twitter post has since been deleted. Sounds like their social media person kenna from upstairs.

Noticed this interesting comment at the videography subreddit. If the talk about internal squabble has any truth to it, that kinda explains the delay...

from what i've heard, all the Pre-production versions are final firmware, it was just an internal squabble at panasonic that was making it take so long. Panasonic Pro didn't want V-log in a consumer camera.

Haha, it will still be 8-bit 420.. the most 10-bit 422 with the YAGH or external recorder. no issue from my POV.

GH4 Cinelike is very contrasty. It only needs the V-log to be a more desirable camera again.....
