You know who to look for if you want a new R2a/R3a Gray ya? His email below in the sig line.

SK mentioned the shutter, he's right but it isn't as bad as it sounds. I've used mine quite extensively without any real issue. It is louder than most other RF cams but nothing louder than a modern DSLR. You need to hold the cam properly when releasing the shutter as the poor dampening might result in a light vibration at times. It's not a big deal though, really. I'm still able to handhold the R2a down to 1/8 with no problems.

Yup yup no worries. ;) Will get back to you if I cannot chase down a hexar RF in hong kong. Get back to you by the week after next. Thanks!

considering i handhold my hexar and leicas down to 1/2s at times, i'd say 1/8 is a really big loss. But then again YMMV. I'd really go for the r2a if dampening is not an issue for you. As terence mentioned, its got better service/support.

Wah lao, no winning with you! I'll go out and see if I can hand hold my 1D for 30s!

I'll hardly characterise 1/8 as a "big loss".

Haahha the human tripod?

err, can lah, just try loh. Its more from using the xpan for too long. with that f4 lens, you learn to push your own limits all the time! I normally use it on continuous mode and squeeze off 3 or 4 shots and usually the 2nd shot will be the sharpest. Take a deep breath, make sure you are relaxed and just squeeze off. Thats why i appreciate a motor drive. Oh and put your camera bag down. taking the load off your shoulders really shows a big improvement for me.

This was a 1/15s exposure on a 20D with a 70-200lens. Its still acceptably sharp for me.

One from the east end. This was done on the xpan and hp5 film. Can't remember exact exposure but based on the light levels indoors, its probably 1/8 or lower.

I know what you mean about the xpan, I tend to push the limits with mine as well. That wonderful shutter release and the soft electronic shutter just makes you want to use slower and slower speeds.

ok good luck in hunting down ur rangefinder!

Zaren, another question...since you seem to know about Petri cameras.

I've located a Petri 7 with a 45mm f/1.8 lens. However it doesn't look very much like the Petri 7s that I've been reading about and I don't know if the 7 version has a meter. Would you happen to know the features of a Petri 7 and how it compares to the 7s? Thanks.
