Has anyone done any comparison, in price and performance?

One is white and one is black?

lol, not really. some Gs are black.

Why bother? If you use L, you cannot use G. If you use G, you can't use L. It doesn't matter if one is better than the other.

I heard someone telling me today that L stands for Learners :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Putting an A4 piece of paper on a table with a table fan 2 feet away and on 'high', G and then L lenses were placed on top on the piece of A4 paper.

Both performed equally well in preventing the piece of paper from being blown away.

No noticeable performance difference either between wide angle zooms and telephotos.

I'll tell u why bother, and why matter.
One can choose the SYSTEM with the desired price/performance of either G or L.

HAHAHA, that's so funny. If you want to talk about systems, I'm afraid Canon offers a much more complete system, perhaps you'd like to rephrase your argument a bit?

Performance is probably not an issue once you get to the level of L, G and the Nikon equivalent (of which they don't really have a name). Price difference is also not that great once you hit that level. And like I said, once you settled on a system, it doesn't matter if the other performs better or worse. And the user of the system has a lot more impact on the final picture anyway.

yah true :

canon has about 60 > AF lenses,
nikon has about 41 > AF lenses , 37 > MF lenses
minolta has about 36 > AF lenses.

But don't be surprise at the number of lenses Canon has! A lot of them are crappy, lousy, low grade, cheapskate , base entry level lens.

let see how long the thread can goes before it burns~~~

:rbounce:

A system isn't just about lenses.

Buy both.

Not everyone buys as much equipment like you do, for most it comes down to making a choice about how to get the most out of a limited budget.

Erm, you have it back to front.

The Nikon system as a whole is considerably larger than the Canon System. When you incorporate backwards compatibility in to the equation the Nikon system would be at least 3-4 times larger than the Canon Eos system.

Caveat: References above are to professional bodies and accessories. Newer Nikon consumer bodies and amateur bodies aren't as backwardly compatible as the professional bodies.

If you bothered to read my post, it was canon over minolta.

i'd never suggested one to buy the WHOLE system.
let's get to the piont and don't get distracted.
i'm simply comparing both G & L of the same focal length.

if what one needs are ONLY super wide zoom, standard, tele zoom and macro, lets help him compare the price/performance ratio of the said lens offered by both G and L for him to choose. presumably he would buy the corresponding body to suit the lens if he has not already own one.
