I used a cokin P007, because the local shop doesnt have hoya, but i looked up on the net and they say p007 89b is just equivalent to hoya one. is it not the case then?....:cry:

another thing is that does the actual temperature affect the ir too? (i doubt it, but its really cold in UK at the moment, so i thought that may affect it, cant wait to go back to HK...)

nah, ir is not PREDATOR vision style of ir

it is equivalent, in the sense that they cut out almost the same light, but the cast of cokin is obviously different from the cast of hoya, cokin looks yellowish, hoya looks reddish

there is no issue shooting in the cold, i have been shooting here in london as well and have achieved pretty good results thus far. take note that k10d is not very good for ir.

in any case, it is not easy to help you unless i have the camera with me etc. if you happen to be in central london area, let me know, i don't mind taking a quick afternoon to show you how to do it. cheers

in any case, try to wait for some of the people who have succesfully used k10d to take ir to reply.. i think istDS has gotten pretty good results.

in any case, shoot in raw next time, just in case, and then select the foliage parts as the grey point, that will help things a lot, believe me.

k10d usually need to overexpose a lot (based on in-cam metering), was this your original picture? if it was then the exposure does seem fine to me.

i have shot in RAW, but still, when i used lightroom eyedrop on the foliage, it just gives me this orange brown white balance... really dont know what is wrong... if i over expose anymore, i will loss the building...
gonna bring my k10d with me tomorrow anyway to see if there is a difference (get out of the country side)

that is correct, anyways, whatever you get, you can just post it up here, i will do the pp and detail the steps taken for you. small size only, please.

what is half-term? i only know christmas holidays, easter holidays, summer holidays, in any case i will be here until summer for most of the time, though might travel during the halls depending. if you're ever coming just let me know. tomorrow i am very busy, so definitely no way. =D

interesting, have never seen an ornage building in ir before

usually the dustbins in singapore have a funny color in sunlight in ir though

IT WORKED~!!
went to London yesterday, and went to TATE modern, and there were trees and sun, i thought, um, lets give this a try, and omg, I did it, with my K10D with P007, YES~
but still K10D sensitivity to IR are quite, long long exposure, and i didnt have a tripod with me, so have to do it hand held, so it is a bit noisey.

anyway, thanks very much for ur help night86mare~ may be we could do some photo shooting together next time i am out to london.

even though K10D has a built in shake reduction system, but exposure that long is not easy, so i used iso 400, opened up the aperture to max, so i dont have to hold the shutter for too long. but i have taken about 10 photos until i got this still one, although i try doing it with iso-200, but no way i could hand-held with iso-200~

this is the original, not been PP, straight from the camera, with custom white balance.

in any case, it's a pity you didn't have a tripod to try it out further.. actually seems like your k10d more sensitive to ir than snowywolf's.. speaking of which where is she, she seems to have disappeared into thin air.

glad that you have found out how to do it, on a separate note, the photo does look a little teeny weeny bit underexposed, maybe half a stop or one more stop or even 1 1/2 stops more would be better

ah, i didnt know snowwolf uses k10d as well, um... i dont think my would be any different to her's, bear in mind London yesterday was very sunny during 11 to 2 o'clock~!!! so the effect shows up more

and those funny round thing aren't dirt, I actually think either they are light leaking in or the flare from light bouncing off the filter, or both. this is a big disadvantage of the cokin 007.

anyway, what does the whole photo look like after u process it?

i don't know leh, i can't seem to get the correct color, so i gave up

maybe more used to processing hoya r72 photos

anyways, these are my 2 galleries for infrared : singapore and london. i think you'll see that hoya really looks quite different, somehow

yeah, i do see the difference. I must say, the PP using cokin was not that easy, k10d made it even harder... may be if using hoya, when comes to PP, it would be easier.
