hihi, paiseh, wat is contact printing. Can print like normal 8R prints just by using tat chemicals u mentioned ???

sorry just to add on for wat i've said, fairprice, is there any instructions available for printing with those chemicals?

tia

Hi West_ray,

A contact print captures all 36 of 35mm images into an 8x10 sheet of paper. Each image size is exactly the same as that of the negative. To do contact printing, you need to place the negatives on top of a 8x10 photographic paper and expose it to light. After a number of seconds, develop the paper and you'll get the contact. It's very much like the index prints you get from the 1-hour photo labs.

Using the chemicals I mentioned above, mix 1 part of PQ developer to 9 parts water, that is, 100ml (dev) + 900ml (water) in an 8x10 tray. Suggested developing time is 90 sec.

As for fixer, mix 1 part to 3 parts water. Fix the paper for 3 min. After that, wash the RC paper for 3 minutes followed by drying.

Hope that helps.

Interesting reading material from the National Library...

B&W Photo Lab
Advanced Processing and Printing by Adrian Ensor
ISBN 2-88046-500-1 (Printed 2001)

Each illustrated photo is accompanied by technical details such as paper type, developer type, etc. Interesting observation is that many of the prints were printed with Ilford PQ developer with various developing times from 1.5 to 2.5 minutes!

There are also useful tips such as..."Matt prints can dry down at least 25%. The contrast level can fall when dry, so I tend to print about a grade harder on matt to compensate for this."

Another interesting one..."Don't be afraid to print darker than you think. They say the older you are, the darker your prints will be."

Happy New Year! Any orders for 2004?
