from mini cassetter to pc

hi guys and ladies...

i have video cam but its a cassette type and right now i am having problem transferring the videos to my pc... i have tried using the usb cable but my pc doesnt register the new hardware like it usually does to any camera... is there any way to do it or do i need additional hardwares and softwares?

You need to use Firewire, which is different from USB. USB is usually used to transfer photos.

in addition you need to have a 1394 plug on board or you can add a 1394 PCI card. Get one with video editing software bundled.
