A shop recommended me Sunpak PZ40 or Sigma 530 Super for my D80. I am not sure which to get, anyone can recommend?

Neither...

Best get a original Nikon flash. They offer the best compatibility and effective usage.

Save for a SB-600 or SB-800 at least.

Guys,

Since this thread is revived, I have a question on SB600 with my D80.

If I set my Auto FP on but I shoot at below Sync Speed, 1/100sec for example, will the flash be smart enough to NOT use the FP mode?

As I always leave the Auto FP mode On in my cam, I am wondering if I have been shooting with compromised Fire Power...:bsmilie:

Thank!

Yes. It is smart enough.

I keep AutoFP mode on all the time, just in cast I get a higher shutter speed which I'd need the flash to sync properly...

Oic. Then whats the point of give an option for Auto FP off?? For other flash unit I reckon?

IIRC, the Auto FP off options would be the other sync speeds. And if you use a non-CLS compatible flash or pop-up, it would be limited to 1/250...

You can also set the sync speed limit as your shutter speed when using S or M mode. Just change the speed to the slowest til you see an X. This is when you'd need to set a pre-fixed sync speed.

Oh, i was thinking of the sigma...

The sigma will not support the CLS as well, esp. the AWL (I dun think it can work). So I won't reccomend it.

I know there is this wireless slave thingy on this sigma, when the camera fire a flash, the sigma (satelite) fires too. I tested it, that's why I am so amazed by it. I am not sure if AWL is the same as this and I am new to CLS too. lol I'm a noob, so pardon me. ;p

No worries... CLS is Nikon's Creative Lighting System. AWL is Advanced Wireless Lighting.

With a CLS enabled body and flash, you can control remote flashes with Nikon's smart iTTL control and have properly exposed shots easily.

You won't regret having a CLS flash...its super convenient when you shoot indoor. To shoot my kid at home, I simply place the flash at a good location and start shooting my kid when he plays at his playing corner....I don't have to readjust the flash head when I change from landscape to portrait composition to shoot....super convenient. Its worth spending that diff between an Nikon and a Sigma flash.;)
