Flash light for D80

D80 is a flash commander by itself mah. So I dun need SB800 as a commander mah. I am sure if I have only one SB600/800/ SBR200, D80 can remotely command anyone of them wirelessly (its written on pg119 of the D80 manual)....but my question is whether it can still do the job when a 3rd party flash is mounted on the hotshoe....as the manual wont discuss about 3rd equipment.:bsmilie:

No... you cannot do that. Only SB800 or SU800 can be used as a commander mounted on your D80 for the SB600.

... and my answer to your question was... no... you cannot mount any other flash on the D80 and make it work as a commander... that includes 3rd party flashes, SB600, or any other Nikon Speedlights...(except SB800).

By the way, I tested the Sunpak flash again.....I did the flash test and if the flash is ok, the 'ok' button is suppose to light up....but it didn't! I did make sure the sensor was not blocked:(

I checked the sensor on the outside, looks fine and the hole was not blocked. Opened up the flash and checked that the sensor's wires are still in good contact, all ok. So I think the sensor is not working liao.

Anyone has any idea if it is worth repairing the auto sensor? Where can I do it? Thanks.

BTW, my other flash, Soligor TIF340 AF Zoom Flash, just wont fire from the D80 even when I masked the pin which the Sunpak works after masking it. Any idea why? Thanks.

Hmm... IMHO, sell all your flashes and raise $$$ to buy a SB600/800. :bsmilie:

I will do that, as in buying a new flash. But for the mean time, 1 2 salvage these flashlights first....no fish prawn also good mah:) :bsmilie:

Then save up and get one... ;)

Really it's much better... esp the iTTL flash control.

Use manual mode lor.. but that will definitely slow you down. :P Time to get a new flash. I think the agent for Sunpak is Cathay Photo. Maybe you can check with them.

No mola for the moment.....Thanks for the tips!

Dun think it worth much.

U may be rite they are not worth much, but just wanna share my experience when I was raising $$$ to buy D80. I have lotsa computer spare parts in my storeroom (old harddisk, CD-RW drives, power supply, casing, cable modem, USB link cable, etc, etc). Always thought I'll keep them as spares because they worth very little. But in my desperate attempt to raise $$$ to buy D80, I dug them all out to sell on HWZ, and presto, I managed to sell almost everything (+/-$20 here, +/-$20 there) for about $300!! Can almost buy 1 SB600 already.:bsmilie:

I figured that they are sitting around collecting dust anyway, and by the time my computer go bonkers and need the spares, the spares may not be working already . So, sell sell sell so that I can buy buy buy!!!

Don;t get the SB80DX. It will work, but SB600, SB800 or SB900 are much better in terms of capability.
