First try.....IR

All photos were taken with a hoya 72 filter, at long exposure of about 20 - 40 secs. My camera can only record at longer exposure, so there is limitation to capturing still images.:(

(1) A panoramic stitch. It's sunny, and the sun was at the back.

(2) Another one at marina bay (the light was flat & dull), approaching the night. But I like the wide space here.

(3) At sunset; Backlit. The foliage will be very dark if it is not an IR here.

the pictures do look good, especially #1. if u could get your camera modded for IR to wipe out those tree movements, it would have been excellent!! :)

Hello johnlim.
I agree with takeshi.lum.
#1 has got the feel. And you may really like to have a modified IR camera to make the journey so much more enjoyable.

For the first try and with a posting of #1 ... You are leaving a very good first impression .. Keep it up

Thanks to all for the encouragement. :)

But, is there some kind of specific things you look out for in IR photos, eg.... colors, contrast,.......

How about 2nd photos? I know it looks like a normal B&W photos, it's not very contrasty(I edit it to be such), and a slight tint to it.

And 3rd, the foreground(building & foliage) is meant to be underexposed, except the cloud.. The colour is not channel swapped, unlike the usual way of doing it. I used solid color(orange) in the blending mode, "exclusive" or "difference"(I can't remember) .

johnlim, may I share with you how I feel about the 2nd and 3rd photo?

2nd photo: you have made full use of the IR aspect of the grass on the ground. It is just that the whole sheet of white has no details in it, and the foreground appears just a tad monotonous. May I suggest perhaps choosing a foreground with elements that could bring out the IR-ness, e.g. shrubs, bushes, trees, fences with vines.. etc. etc...

3rd photo: It's meant to be a 'mood' shot with the trees almost silhouetted against the bright sky. The centre piece for this phto should be the bell-roof of Victoria concert hall. Thus it is, in my opinion, ok to have the trees darkened thus. The long exposure has certainly created streaks in the clouds due to the cloud movements and that is nice. Only thing is, being a slightly underexposed IR shot, I think it may be a little difficult to bring out the intrinsic colours of the foliage, unless you inject colours extrinsically into them.

These are, merely my own humble opinion.
I hope you don't mind me expressing them.
Thanks for sharing, johnlim.

If you are following the traditional of IR then the leaves and grasses are to be white in color..
But as you you might have notice that many of the guys here have moved away from the plain jane IR.. So it really depends on what you like .. Miss plain Jane or Miss wild and colorfully

For your first post.. The immediate impact is there when first viewed .. But if I may.. The esplanade is a very big subject .. Should try not to cropped it .. To the right the railing to me it should be cropped as it does nothing much for the shot.. But that just me

Your 2nd shot does not have the contrast like the first hence it is weak in comparison.. The tone which you have used is to suggest a vintage feel (unless I am mistaken).. Will work much better if the contrast and sharpness level was higher
And if I may.. For seriously no face given c&c .. The vehicle there are a eye source.. At least to me

#3 .. Is seriously under exposed.. Thought the cloud did try to help but the overall picture is not really making it..

Hope my comments are not to hard .. My apologize if they are

Cheers
