First Photos from new CV 35/1.4 Nokton SC

The tones are are great wide-open but it gets contrastier as you stop down. The bottom 2 were taken on a sunny afternoon @f8.
Here's another afternoon at f8 shot:
That's right across from the school where I teach and probably the best pizza in Taiwan. If I were a dog I'd be hanging outside the door, too! LOL
Some observations... I'm crazy about old lenses with little contrast, and the CV 35 classic single coat makes the f8 shots look like trix pushed 2 stops in terms of contrast! Not what I was expecting at all...
The other thing I remembered about the nokton classic is that its too small for me (large hands!). I tried it once for handling on a friend's RF and I think that the aperture & focus tabs, while good, are too close together to fiddle in the type of photography that I do. Leica does it better for handling, then again, there's a price difference to pay too.
Otherwise, I think its a commendable lens. Just doesn't fit me too well.

The "classic" look is there at f1.4-f5.6. Honestly, this lens kicks @$$ wide open but is more "normal" stopped down.
Just scanned from my recent Nippon trip...
Picture taken at Nikko Train Station (Toei Line), a 2.5 hour by train from Tokyo. Can't remember the settings, but was consumer grade Kodak 400, I think was wide open.
And I must say.... if you travel light, the 35/f1.4 is a excellent lens for short trips and business assignments.

I took a series of test pics from f1.4 to f8 to try and see the backfocus at f2.8-f4 that Sean Reid and a few others claimed to be getting but didn't see any. Either:
1) the additional DOF with film makes it a non-issue for film users like me.
or
2) SG got the first batch of lenses and sold him to his close compadres (like Reid, TomA, etc...)...and the first batch had some sort of defect.
